No. 31/2009), which were dismissed by the Magistrate on August 31, 2009, with a subsequent criminal appeal also meeting dismissal.  > Second Stage of Litigation & FIR (2011–2015): Following the dismissal of her first private complaint in 2011, woman filed a second private complaint that led to the registration of FIR No. 503/2011. The discharge petition filed by the man was subsequently dismissed by the Trial Court on January 9, 2015.  > High Court & Supreme Court Proceedings (2013–2026): The man challenged the proceedings before the Kerala High Court via multiple petitions (including Crl. M.C. No. 5051/2013, Crl. R.P. No. 295/2015, and Crl. M.C. No. 1221/2015), culminating in the High Court's common order of dismissal on May 21, 2025, before the Supreme Court finally allowed the appeals and discharged the man on October 30, 2026.  > This is one of those rare judgements in which Hon’ble SC observes about “Agency of Man”, you read it correctly. Hon’ble SC lays emphasis on that a man has a right too to withdraw from consensual relationship. > Sad part is only in India on whims and fancies of a woman, a case can be dragged for over 20 years. Time when "connection with marriage" language is ignored while defining "Dowry". Isn't the judgment standing in clear contradiction to the DP Act #DraconianAct, which defines the word, "dowry"? We hope that Hon'ble SC looks into this matter and makes a proper judgment. Words in an act must not be ignored for any societal misunderstanding.
