This is something I hear constantly, everywhere I travel around the world, from Los Angeles to London, from Cape Town to Sydney. The message is remarkably consistent: Being strong does not mean being extreme. Strength and extremism are not the same thing.
I believe in peace through strength, not peace through extremism.

The Word of the Week: Parashat Lech Lecha Abraham separated from Lot, yet risked his life to rescue him. There is a profound distinction between ending a relationship as it was and abandoning responsibility for another human being. Distance need not mean indifference.

The Word of the Week: Parashat Lech Lecha Sometimes life gives us a second chance. Sometimes even a third. But how often do we ask why? Lot escaped disaster twice. His tragedy was not what happened to him, but what he failed to learn from it. Survival is a gift. Change is our responsibility.

To one of Israel’s greatest supporters, @BillAckman: thank you for standing with us and believing in our future. Your confidence in Israel is a powerful reminder of what our people can build. Our best days are still ahead.

So beautiful.
Sometimes, discovering your Jewish roots can change the course of your life. When artist Barbara Hines' teenage son announced he wanted to convert to Judaism, a surprising family revelation uncovered a Jewish heritage hidden since the Holocaust. Her journey of rediscovery eventually led her to Jerusalem, where she found love, a new home and inspiration for her art. A beautiful story of Jewish identity, resilience and coming home. jns.org/feature/a-spark-from…

The Word of the Week: Parashat Noach Was Noach genuinely extraordinary, or simply the best of the worst? Our sages offer both readings. Being the best available choice does not make responsibility any smaller or any easier.

For all the useful idiots:
Bill Maher presents Israeli history for dummies For those who believe all that they have been told my mainstream media or the 'free Palestine' movement, this is important fact checked information to digest Most of the people chanting 'from the river to the sea' have no idea what it means, perhaps it would be best to get just a little educated on what your are protesting

The Word of the Week: Parashat Bereshit God placed Adam in Eden "to cultivate it and to keep it" (Genesis 2:15). Our task is not simply to preserve the world as we found it. We must improve what is entrusted to us, then protect what it has become.

Three years ago, October 7 tore a wound into our people that has not closed. There are still empty chairs at Israeli tables. There are families whose lives will always be divided into before and after. And there is a question the Jewish people has carried through thousands of years: How do we continue? My father, Rabbi Adin Even-Israel Steinsaltz, wrote: “The fact that there exists a people that is ‘one lamb amidst seventy wolves,’ a nation that survives despite all the hardships and despite all the persecutions, constitutes more than a historical curiosity.” Jewish survival has never meant simply remaining alive. We remember. We learn. We teach. We pass it on. So many of our soldiers gave their lives so that the Jewish people could continue. Our responsibility is to make certain that what continues is worthy of their sacrifice. Through Mishnah for Every Neshama, we are dedicating the entire Seder Taharot of the English Steinsaltz Mishnah to the memory of the fallen soldiers of the IDF. משנה, Mishnah, and נשמה, Neshama, are composed of the same Hebrew letters. For every name, a soul. For every soul, Torah. For every generation, the responsibility to continue. May their memories live not only in our grief, but in the Torah we learn, the knowledge we pass on, and the Jewish future they gave their lives to protect.

Today we remember the victims of the October 7 massacre – the killing of innocent Israeli people, the torture, mutilation, rape and kidnapping, parading of the dead, the wanton cruelty and the depraved celebrations of murder, the gleeful delight in brutality, the degeneracy of its perpetrators and supporters. It is a day that stands out for its unparalleled sadism and nihilism. The scale of the killing of people of all sorts, all races, Jewish and Arab and others, is unequalled in a single day in modern times. It was the greatest murder of Jewish people since the Holocaust. Its cruelty and barbarism seem to belong to cruel times long ago – this was a lurch back to the raids and slaughters of the Mongols or the Huns - but it is unique too in its 21stcentury hi-tech modernity: it was filmed live by its perpetrators and other cameras and so unlike any other atrocity in all of human history, its details are beyond question. It is the most documented butchery and sadism ever perpetrated – and therefore the reactions to it are simply the clearest and most unequalled test of humanity available to us, reactions that will be remembered in the future. It was also a crime against peace: its effects were utterly destructive for Israelis but also for Palestinians and the innocent people across the whole region who perished in the wars it unleashed. More than that, it was an atrocity against humanity itself - and the humanist values that mark all decent people, the values of liberal, free, kind societies and communities everywhere. Its effects were utterly destructive for Israelis but also for the Palestinians and the rest of the region. Today we remember those who died, those who were wounded, those who were kidnapped, tortured, raped and killed in the tunnels of Gaza, those who lost friends and compatriots. It was a crime of annihilation to launch the liquidation of an entire people and nation, to kill and torture Israelis and Jews. Am Yisrael Chai.
