Pretty cool weekend for the Burton family. Veronica stars in two Valkyries playoff victories and her grandfather Ron is honored on a prominent mural on the concourse as Northwestern unveils its new football stadium. @NU_Sports @valkyries

A certain broadcaster got to Oracle Park early to tape a stick figure on the wall next to the Mike Krukow tribute 😂

After tonight’s effort, the Northwestern players definitely deserve these accommodations. First game in the new place is next Friday vs Penn State.
This is awesome: A first look at Northwestern’s new $850 million+ stadium, and it's one of the nicest in all of college football. The facilities are better than some in the NFL. 🤯🤯🤯

He’s a California kid, of course. Downey High School. Then to Oregon State and Michigan State before taking the portal to Evanston. I just hope he can stay healthy for 12 games.
Who is this Northwestern QB? Vince Young. One eye on the TV.

Hey, at least my purple team caused trouble and easily beat the spread. Isn’t that what matters in the FanDuel era?
Indiana has won 20 straight football games. #IUFB

Happy Daughters Day to the best one in my life. We also both love purple.

Colorado players talking trash about Northwestern’s temporary stadium ahead of this evening’s game: “This place f*cking sucks” “Sh*t sounds like a f*cking library.”

Sorry I didn’t reply earlier to this tweet. I’ve been in the cold tub since the game ended, soaking my bruisss and reviewing video.

In fairness, as a Northwestern alum, I know many students do spend Saturdays at the library, not games—and if they’re like me at age 20 & hung over from Friday night with no shower, they do smell bad.
So on brand. Mocking the other team, then getting their *** kicked

Killer spiders are simply Australia’s version of California freeway Tesla fires.
Replying to @MercPurdy
Except there is a ton of animals that can kill you, including spiders in Sydney.

And funny accents. And cars driving left of the white line. Otherwise, on two trips there, I developed the same opinion. You fly such a long way & it turns out to very non-exotic & almost like here. Just watch it when you step off the curb & make sure you look the right way.
Australia is California on the metric system.

So Crosby finally cut his hair.

I was there that night, in the 12th row. It was one of my top five concert experiences. Crosby had just left prison, which explains his short hair. The CSNY reunion was unbilled and a complete surprise. And then, this . . .
one of my absolute favourite videos ever; a reunited CSNY perform Hungry Heart with Bruce Springsteen and Nils Lofgren at the very first bridge benefit, 1986

Incredible story. That is one excellent and heroic school headmaster.
His friend from upstream who called him to warn him about the flash floods and his quick thinking and decisive leadership saved the lives of everyone. He basically saved a generation of Nepalese 🙏

More fun facts: (1) I met Bruno when I was 10 years old at my hometown’s local ballpark. He seemed really old but was younger than I am now. (2) He was nicknamed after his St Bernard dog also named Bruno. (3) He managed the Durham Bulls in 1941-43, before the Kevin Costner era.
Replying to @MercPurdy
I love that interview you had with Bruno when he broke in. I was with the Miracle Braves that day.

Fun fact: Seth Lonsway made his MLB debut today with the Giants. He’s a fine graduate of Celina (Ohio) High School like me—and the first former Celina Bulldog to reach the majors since Bruno Betzel in 1914. Gave up some runs, but I’m still very happy for Seth’s family & friends.

It's probably that the college game should have done long ago. And yes, it also benefits fans who don't gamble. But the sponsorship links with gambling apps are what forced the move--and no doubt, it will increase the amount of money bet on Saturdays. Is that good or bad?
Replying to @MercPurdy
It’s the way of college sports. If they take the sponsorship money then the sponsors should have available reports on injuries. I see your point but I’m not the only who likes wagering and if they’re benefitting why can’t we?

So. The gambling apps finally got what they wanted. What else could be behind this new policy?

Leo made more money as a pro wrestler in the offseason than he did from his 49ers salary during the season. Sold out the Cow Palace. I wish I'd been able to interview him. Just shook his hand a couple of times at various gatherings. He definitely had huge mitts--and a fine grip.
Leo was a gentle lion in real life… I interviewed him in the 90’s for one of my “Where Are They Now” segments and he gave me this wrestling magazine that featured him in his off season profession! I’ll always remember him playing the piano for us with those giant hands!
