3) Fast 9 Vanguards
If you can get to the final board and have Ivern stack enough hexes this is easily one of the highest caps this patch.
Morgana will be the real carry of this comp until you hit Alune and have 3 items on her. You want to focus full damage on Alune while Morgana holds your utility items and gunblade to stall for Alune’s big ultimate.
This comps really requires your copies of 5-costs to truly flourish so be sure to take econ augments, play in econ portals and angle with econ openers like Coven
2) Vertical Riftbeasts
Vertical Riftbeasts was already a comp that was doing very well before and the buffs to Brambleback make it even stronger.
With the nerfs to 7 Riftbeasts the comp plays quite differently even though the comp plays the same units.
You want to push levels to play Brambleback main carry and use 5+ Riftbeast to hit 3* Krugs and any other Riftbeasts you happen to 3*.
Top 3 Comps IMPROVED in the new patch [B-Patch]
1) Tristana Reroll
An old early set comp makes it return.
Buffs to Trist’s manapool and ability pushed this comp an ENTIRE half placement to B tier making it easily the most improved comp of this patch.
The comp still plays the same:
- Roll on 7 for Tristana and Rammus (Vi is optional)
- Rageblade being the most important item on Tristana
- Sivir duo carry
- Primal is ‘items’ if you’re playing from ahead, otherwise both healing and execution work.
5. A TIER Elderwood Ezreal
While admittedly there are a few other comps that have marginally better improvements this patch, we wanted to highlight this comp as we feel like Elderwood never really got its time to shine this set.
This comp ideally uses an Elderwood Emblem, with 65% games being played with one, increasing it’s performance by 0.42.
Soraka and Ezreal are your main carries.
This comp has a surprisingly high win rate for a vertical trait and really relies on legendaries like Gnar, Kennan and Taric to top 2 games.
4. A Tier Invoker Morgana
Some bug fixes to AOE damage definitely play a part in this comp’s rise. One of the 4-cost heavy comps to see new relevance this patch.
Can be played with rerolling or pushing levels. Navigate based on your game state.
Don’t build shred as you have Kog’maw.
Can carry Teemo, Kog’maw or Morgana and duo carry another of them.
Kog can carry both AD and AP items without having to build shred for either of them.
3. S TIER Riftbeast Pebbles
3 DIFFERENT Rifbeasts got a buff this patch (Mama Beak, Murkwolves and Gromp)
Gromp got 3 different buffs.
NOT played like your traditional 1-cost reroll. Hit 5 Riftbeast as soon as possible to 3* Pebbles or any other carry that fits that game.
Push levels and play 7 Riftbeast.
2. A TIER Akali Reroll
BUFFS to both Camille (AD) and Varus (Mana)
Many low cost rerolls re-entering the meta allow this comp to swing half a placement back in A Tier.
You want to focus on a tank and 1 melee carry (either Camille or Akali).
You can itemize the 2nd melee carry after. Not enough data as of yet to confirm whether Varus is a suitable or stronger carry than Camille/Akali as of now.
Akali can be AP or AD but seems to prefer AD items. It is also easier to build shred for only one type of damage.
The much-requested MetaTFT standalone app is finally here!
It has the same comps, stats and in-game overlays you're used to, but you don't need Overwolf running while you play.
If you want to give it a go, head to metatft.com/download, then click "Download Standalone".
5. Giant Slayer
Giantslayer has had a history of being of the strongest Radiant items in previous sets and in set 18 it’s no different.
It’s one of the most versatile items in the game and can go on practically any carry. Notable ones being Draven, Caitlyn and Elder Dragon.
4. Hand of Justice
Melee items in recent years have really fallen in usage and relevance with even melee carries preferring items like Steraks and Edge of Night over healing so it’s refreshing to see Hand of Justice seeing such high relevance in this set -although it does seem Kha’Zix’s dominance is doing a lot to carry it’s stats.
HoJ in particular was one of the worst items in the game for a long while, but with this set’s units combined with recent buffs to all healing items, it has become an item you can actually feel good about making.
Kha’Zix, Elder Dragon, Akali, Murk Wolves and Brambleback are some of the best users.
3. Adaptive Helm
A surprising entry to many players is Adaptive Helm. Adaptive Helm (formerly known as Jak'Sho the Protean) used to be single-handidly the WORST radiant item in the game for 5 straight sets. This was because the item was bugged and wasn’t ever addressed until every Radiant was reworked to simply count as 2 items.
Now in set 18 it’s seeing great performance (albeit a low sample size) on units like Veigar, Zyra, Ahri, Soraka and Morgana. There's a lot of ways to generate mana this set (ex. Lux, Invoker, Flora Fatalis) and Adaptive Helm users are definitely making use of it.
It also appears to be much better on casters than tanks but it’s hard to say definitively due to the lower sample size.
Best Radiants and Their Users:
1. Thieves Gloves
There’s no surprise here, Radiant Gloves is quite often the strongest radiant item in any set and in set 18 there are many relevant users like Kennen, Elder Dragon, Brambleback and Gnar.
Compositions are also item heavy due to having multiple carries like Aphelios + Nidalee, Malphite AP/AD Flex and Ahri Morgana.
In Fast 9 comps like executioner Draven, having a TG is almost mandatory due to the sheer amount of 5-costs you play and even 3-cost reroll comps like Kha’Zix and Azir benefit from having a TG.
Finally the ‘Radiantize’ wisp transforms a random item into a Radiant one after 8 seconds, in this case hitting a TG is definitely the strongest outcome and would boost Radiant TG’s stats if that was your last fight.
Brawler Master Yi
Another 3-cost that sees massive improvements in performance is Brawler Master Yi.
The Kog’maw variation in particular saw a -0.26 AVP change.
This should be your go-to comp with an early Brawler emblem.
Best Artifacts are Wit’s End and Rapidfire Cannon.
Without Artifacts you usually want Rageblade + Edge of Night.
Azir
Azir is really the only new comp this patch.
Roll at 7 for Azir and Rammus. Fiddle and Teemo are optional but very good.
Teemo 3* is great at farming bonuses from his ability but late game feed him or Soraka 2* to the Blackthorn hex for the mana bonus.
Azir wants Gunblade + Rabadons. This is a stall comp so it’s very important to have Gunblade to stall with Rammus.
Rammus wants Stoneplate + Crownguard + 1. +1 can be any tank item but best item will be Steadfast or Stoneplate.
Rapidfire Aphelios
REQUIRES and Rapidfire Emblem.
Rapidfire Aphelios saw a -0.16 AVP change after Khazix was nerfed.
This comp in particular suffers heavily as with only 2 frontline pieces, Khazix can easily walk up and jump into the backline. In addition with multiple squishy backline units, threats like Nidalee and Khazix can easily find resets and proc healing orbs.
Emblem always goes on Brambleback.
Aphelios doesn’t want any AS with 6 Rapidfire, just pure damage with Kraken’s, Deathblade, Infinity Edge, Giantslayer and Guardbreaker.
Cassio Reroll
The MOST improved comp this patch with a whopping -0.27 AVP change.
With nerfs to backline threats like Kha’zix, stall comps like Cassiopeia see much more success.
The same comp as before: roll on 7 and 3* Cassio, Rammus and Fiddlesticks.
Cassio items are Mana + Gunblade + AP. x2 AA with Gold Augment.
Main tank items on whoever you 3* first but Rammus is better if they are the same level.
Zyra Juggernauts
Juggernaut flex accepts a wide variety of backline carries; recently in this patch Zyra variations have seen an increase in performance.
She can be played with a duo carry of either Sivir, AP Nidalee or legendaries such as Ivern.
She wants Archangels + Mana + 1 (usually Gunblade)
You can do x2 Archangels and no mana items with the gold augment ‘Seraphim’s Staff’.
