#news - Metatek has entered into a long-term Aircraft Services Agreement with @BridgerAero to support its global airborne geophysical survey operations. The agreement provides dedicated deployment of three Basler BT-67 special mission aircraft. Bridger will modify, operate and maintain the aircraft, which will be configured for Metatek’s sensors and mission equipment. The first aircraft is expected to be ready for operational deployment in the second half of 2027, with the remaining two delivered over the following three years. Metatek had a busy week in Cape Town, South Africa, attending Africa Energy Week and the South African Geophysical Association (SAGA) 19th Biennial Conference and Exhibition. At SAGA, Metatek's Jonathan Watson presented a paper he co-authored with Gary Barnes, Christian Richards, and Mark Davies. Jonathan was also honoured with the SAGA 2026 Geofocus Innovation Award. What does it mean to “see” underground from the air? Every rock formation has a density. Ore bodies, salt domes, basins and faults all create small differences in the Earth’s gravity field. Those differences are tiny, but they can be measured. Full Tensor Gradiometry (FTG) doesn’t measure gravity at a single point. It measures how gravity changes in every direction at once. That gives geoscientists a much sharper picture of the edges, depth and shape of what lies beneath the surface. Flown from an aircraft, an FTG survey can cover large and remote areas quickly, without disturbing the ground. The result is a high-definition subsurface map that helps exploration teams decide where to focus before a single hole is drilled.
