I call myself an atheist. Agnostic for me would be trying to weasel out and sound a little nicer than I am about this. - Richard Feynman's response when asked whether he called himself an atheist or an agnostic.

Someone once asked me why I build my own 3D engine instead of using an existing one. Here's one of the reasons. It is fun. And here is another. openglobus.org #OpenGlobus #maps #terrain #dtm #javascript #webgl

A terrain rendering error can be more expensive than you think. Sometimes, perfectly smooth terrain is exactly what you don't want. In real-world applications, accuracy matters. Critical terrain features must remain visible at any distance, even when geometry is simplified. This video shows how OpenGlobus handles it. openglobus.org #OpenGlobus #GIS #TerrainRendering #Geospatial

We're happy to welcome two new contributors to OpenGlobus! 👏 Mochammad Fadhlan Al-Ghiffari - fixed a camera rotation issue, improving globe navigation and positioning. 👏 Mussab Abdalla - brought GeoTIFF support to OpenGlobus, opening up new possibilities for working with geospatial raster data. It's great to see new people getting involved and helping OpenGlobus grow. Thank you both for your contributions! 🚀 #OpenSource #WebGL #GIS #Geospatial #Web #JavaScript #TypeScript #3dmaps

A little something I've been building with #OpenGlobus! The idea is to bring multiple drone recordings into a single 3D environment. You can follow their movements, explore what happened during an operation, and analyze and measure what you see. Thanks @UnifiedAerial (unifiedaerial.com/) for the data and feedback! #Geospatial #UAV #AugmentedReality

Happy 28th birthday to GDAL ! From the first commit on 1998-10-17 from a small rural town outside of Ottawa Canada, to almost every geospatial software installation on the planet (and satellites and other planets!) in 28 years. The ultimate example of sharing & community. #foss4g

Dockable dialogs just landed in OpenGlobus! You can now dock plugin windows, arrange them however you like, and keep your workspace tidy. Live example: sandbox.openglobus.org/examp… #OpenGlobus #WebGL #GIS #JavaScript

I’ve always wanted to build a flight simulator. Somehow, I ended up building this instead. OpenGlobus projectors can be attached to drones, driven by camera telemetry, and used to project video onto terrain, up to 64 at once. Useful for camera coverage and AR. #OpenGlobus #WebGL #terrain #uav #uas #drones #AugmentedReality #geospatial #visualization #maps #JavaScript

Re-intro 🧵 at 10k followers: I’m a Nat Geo-published cartographer in Los Angeles, I make maps all day, most for cash and some because they needed to exist I’m here to spam my fav material culture and demand you make one single map: youshouldmakemaps.com/ My design files: evanapplegate.com/map-design… Practical carto tips: xitter.cf/youwillmakemaps/status…

Fewer than 300 people in human history have ever seen this with their own eyes. Earth spinning beneath them. Nothing between their face and the infinite void except a helmet visor. 🌍🚀 It’s called an extravehicular activity (EVA)—a spacewalk. You leave the station, secure yourself to the spacecraft, and spend hours working in the vacuum of space. And the strangest part? Silence. Sound cannot travel through the vacuum. But the incredible images never show what happens before the hatch opens. 1️⃣ Hours of preparation with pure oxygen Astronauts follow procedures designed to reduce the risk of decompression sickness as suit pressure changes. 2️⃣ Hundreds of hours of underwater training Wearing a spacesuit in a giant pool, astronauts rehearse every movement until it becomes second nature. 3️⃣ Every movement is planned and timed Nothing is improvised. From opening the hatch to securing tools and completing each task, the sequence is meticulously rehearsed. What looks effortless, spontaneous, and almost magical is actually the result of years of training and obsessive preparation. The conversation. The perfect demonstration. The spacewalk. What you see is only the final few minutes of an enormous human effort. 🌌

Two people I'd never met opened a browser tab, found something broken, and fixed it. That's still the part of open source I find slightly magical. Welcome, Olaf Staave and Lakshay Nandwani 👇
Welcome @OlafStaave and @lakshay241104 two new OpenGlobus contributors. Lakshay took an open issue and fixed it - unknown color names no longer rendering inconsistency (#1055). Olaf also shipped free-flight camera controls - WASD across the globe (#1039): sandbox.openglobus.org/examp… Welcome to contribute! #OpenSource #Geospatial #WebGL #javascript #3DVisualization #GrandCanyon

Obligatory shitty eclipse picture. Totality was INSANE! I now believe what they say that any degree of partiality renders it pointless. Everything changes to dark in mere seconds.
