#POTD2026 Day 299 Just can't catch a break. Anyone else always seem to be the one getting the "quick basket check"? Just wanted a quick shop dash today, Almost managed it. At least the assistant was swift and lovely. #potd #shopping #selfcheckout #scanandpack
Not sure where to start with this one. Some pretty terrible driving, accompanied by some rather crappy cycling too. Could have ended very differently, so glad it didn't. Sydenham High St this afternoon. What do you think? #baddriving #sillycyclist #londonstreets #southlondon
Anyone know the nominees for the 2026 FIFA Peace Prize?
Would hate to think that there was only one ever awarded. It would make Donnie's win SO hollow!

Before he sang “You’re Beautiful,” James Blunt says he was ordered to overpower 200 Russian soldiers at an airport in Kosovo.
He questioned the order. Then a British general came on the radio.
It was June 1999. Blunt was 25, serving as a British Army officer near the front of a NATO force advancing toward Pristina airport. Russian troops had arrived first.
According to Blunt, they pointed their weapons at his men and warned them against entering.
The instruction he says came down from NATO commander General Wesley Clark was to “overrun and overpower the Russians.”
Blunt had armed troops behind him. The Russians were standing in front of them. Carrying out the order risked turning a dispute over an airport into a direct military confrontation.
He began questioning the instructions.
Then General Mike Jackson intervened.
At the Oxford Union, Blunt recalled Jackson’s words:
“I will not have my soldiers be responsible for starting World War III.”
The troops pulled back and surrounded the airfield.
Blunt says that two days later, the Russians asked to share their food and water. The British response was that they could share supplies if the Russians shared access to the airport.
The wider standoff still required negotiations. It would be misleading to say one young officer settled the entire crisis himself.
But listen to how Blunt tells the story.
He calls it the moment of his life he would most like to be remembered for. Then, after describing the confrontation, he makes a point of giving Jackson the credit.
The famous singer is telling the audience to remember someone else’s name.

One in prison, one bike in the crusher. But watch the video closely, because the most telling moment isn't the pursuit....
Bobby Duxfield, 21, threatened a man walking his dog with a machete in Darlington, then fled police on a Surron e-bike at high speed, narrowly missing pedestrians and other traffic. @NPAShq tracked him through the town, the bike was stung on Tornado Way, and officers recovered a large machete, cocaine and £1,320 in cash. He has now been jailed for three years and banned from driving for three years, and the bike has been crushed under Durham Constabulary's Operation ORB.
Now watch his reaction when officers tell him he will likely go to prison. He looks surprised. A machete, Class A drugs, cash and a dangerous pursuit through a town, and he genuinely didn't think custody was on the cards.
That tells you a lot about how some offenders see the consequences. The more brazen they get, the more they seem to believe they'll walk away from it. Chief Inspector Sarah Hindmarsh said it is only by chance nobody was seriously hurt or killed.
Do you think the courts are keeping pace with how brazen offenders have become? It seems pretty clear that serious criminals are becoming more brazen because they know that the prisons are full and that they will likely not get a custodial sentence (apart this these two)
