#CottonwoodIncident — Forward progress stopped. VCFD firefighters are making good progress on the brush fire burning north of Cottonwood Drive in Simi Valley. Fixed-wing aircraft are dropping retardant, and helicopters are conducting precise water drops. On the ground, firefighters supported by bulldozers are strengthening containment lines. The fire remains at approximately 20–25 acres, with about 150 firefighters committed to the incident. Currently no structures are threatened. #meadowincident; Firefighters are being released from the scene of a small aircraft crash in Simi Valley. The scene is now under the command of Simi Valley PD in coordination with the NTSB and the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office. At approximately 1:51pm, VCFD was dispatched to reports of a small single engine, fixed-wing aircraft that crashed into structures with and active fire. Firefighters arrived on scene, began an aggressive fire attack and quickly knocked the fire down. Both structures were occupied at the time of the accident, and our Firefighters assisted with evacuating residents. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. Simi Valley PD in coordination with the medical examiners office has verified there were two passengers in the aircraft, both of whom were fatally injured in the accident. #lagunafire; Forward progress on the Laguna Fire has been stopped as of approximately 11:30am. The fire has been held to 50 acres. Nearly 200 firefighters remain on scene working to mop up remaining hot spots and work to increase containment. The evacuation order for CSUCI has been reduced to a warning.
