In a 7,447-person trial, adding extra virgin olive oil to a Mediterranean diet cut heart attacks and strokes by 30% and diabetes by 40%. Yet two "extra virgin" bottles can differ ten-fold in the compounds that do this, and testing reveals the bigger problem isn't fake oil, it's oil that went stale before it ever reached the shelf. Fresh oil is rich in oleocanthal, which blocks the same enzymes as ibuprofen (it's what makes good oil sting your throat). Rubbed on arthritic knees, olive oil relieved pain better than an NSAID gel. Here I show how to tell fresh oil from stale, the brands I trust, and why it holds up to cooking better than the oils promoted in its place: midwesterndoctor.com/p/the-r…

Overusing corticosteroids is incredibly dangerous, yet doctors hand them out for everything. Steroid injections destroy joints—ultimately requiring surgery. Here I show their dangers and the safe alternatives for pain and autoimmune conditions. midwesterndoctor.com/p/stero…

There are many common coconut water brands I won’t drink anymore. After years of making coconuts a dietary staple, I’ve found enormous differences in quality. Yet with coconut oil, paying more isn’t always necessary. Here I share my preferred coconut water, two recipes I’ve made countless times, and when cheaper coconut oil is actually the better choice: midwesterndoctor.com/p/the-i…

One of the worst things medicine did to humanity was hijack death and turn the most sacred moment of our life into a torturous cash cow. Here I reveal why doctors choose to die at home and the vital lessons Scott Adams gave us to navigate the death process. midwesterndoctor.com/p/the-m…

During COVID, hospitals were financially rewarded for using remdesivir and ventilators while families had to fight in court to get an alternative treatment tried. Even when their loved ones were expected to die. COVID exposed a much older problem in medicine: hospitals are rewarded for following protocols that can work against the patient. Here I explain how that happens, and what families need to know before someone they love is hospitalized. 🧵 midwesterndoctor.com/p/what-…

Improving hospital care requires giving doctors time and autonomy to treat the person in front of them, adjusting doses to the patient, and staffing wards so nurses can notice when something changes. Families also need to know how to choose a hospital and advocate effectively once someone is admitted. Here I share the practical steps we use, the incentives that obstruct good care, and the changes my colleagues and I believe could prevent unnecessary deaths: midwesterndoctor.com/p/what-…

1 day left to comment! HHS is seeking public input on the potential health effects of radiofrequency and electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure from cell phones, Wi-Fi, and other wireless technologies. Help us identify research gaps and better understand how these technologies may affect our health, especially the health of our children. Submit comments by October 21: federalregister.gov/document…
The MAHA Strategy gave us a clear mission: investigate the relationship between electromagnetic radiation and health, identify gaps in our knowledge, and make sure federal policy keeps pace with rapidly changing technology. We promised to act, and today we are. We launched a formal Request for Information on radiofrequency and electromagnetic field emissions and their potential effects on human health. What if your home suddenly stopped being a place where you could rest? People living near data centers are reporting headaches, sleepless nights, constant vibration, and more, even inside their homes. I took a look into what could be causing this. One overlooked concern is the “dirty electricity” these facilities send back onto the grid. Here I explain what that means and what could be done about it: midwesterndoctor.com/p/what-…

When Trump suggested putting light inside the body to treat COVID, the discussion became a national punchline. But few people heard the history behind it. Decades earlier, American doctors were treating blood with ultraviolet light and reporting remarkable recoveries from life-threatening infections. Then the American Medical Association helped drive the treatment out of hospitals. 🧵

In 1976, an “emergency” swine flu vaccination campaign was launched despite warnings from the FDA’s own influenza expert, Dr. J. Anthony Morris, that it was unnecessary and dangerous. Many were severely injured. Here, 60 Minutes investigates what happened. Sadly, we've had patients who were permanently injured by that vaccine. For them, this history never ended. As I've studied these disasters, I've repeatedly encountered the same pattern: • Scientists raise safety concerns. • Their warnings are ignored. • The public is assured the product is “safe and effective.” • Injured patients struggle to be heard. • Accountability comes late, if at all. • People forget, and the cycle begins again. Understanding this history is essential to recognizing the warning signs when they appear again. In this thread, I revisit the forgotten vaccine disasters, manufacturing failures, and regulatory decisions that shaped the system we have today. 🧵

For years, I've studied why the FDA defended dangerous drugs while placing obstacles in the path of promising therapies outside the pharmaceutical mainstream. Here I bring that history together, examine what patients lost, and explain what needs to change. midwesterndoctor.com/p/the-f…
