Richard Onyonka: There is nothing wrong with the fact that only two communities have ruled this country. Democracies sometimes allow majorities to govern. However, these majorities must understand that their responsibility is not to create an agenda that establishes financial hegemonic arrangements to maintain control of power in perpetuity. We want a country that is fair to everyone, even those without numbers #JKLive

President Kagame responds to those who say: "Formula 1 is too big for a small country like Rwanda." I tell those people to take a deep breath and calm down, and wait to see what is coming. First, we are people, like the people of other parts of the world. There is nothing, no event, nothing that is bigger than people. So, we are a small country, but we are a people. Formula One is big indeed, but it is not a goal just in itself. In fact, Formula One is part of the big picture of what Rwanda has to do. We made progress as a country, as a people, but also for this particular Formula One, as a sport for Africa. We are not looking at just Rwanda alone. We are looking at Rwanda in the context of the continent, and we have indeed ambitions to bring in other African brothers and sisters to participate. It is Rwandan, it is African, and it is a big deal that we are very happy to be associated with.

The Philip Ndewga Family Dynasty: Behind the clinical balance sheets and multi-billion-shilling corporate realignments of First Chartered Securities lie the sharply contrasting personalities of the two brothers who inherited the empire. -James Ndegwa is quiet, unassuming, and deliberately understated; his tenure as Chairman of the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) was notably low-key, and he can often be spotted blending into the background—wearing poorly fitting suits while window-shopping at the Sarit Centre or Westgate Mall. -In stark contrast, Andrew Ndegwa is intensely cerebral, sharp, and reclusive. -Utterly devoted to numbers and deeply attached to his Apple laptop and iPhones, Andrew is known to run a tight, uncompromising ship, wielding his obsession with metrics like a blunt instrument—inflicting a brand of psychological terror on FCS executives who cannot keep pace, utilizing his command of data to humiliate unprepared staff with an almost sadistic precision. We did a deep dive into the modus operendi of the ndegwa family 🧵 open.substack.com/pub/boardl…

I have read @BoardLotSultan's analysis of my founder journey. Significant research went into it, and I respect anyone taking the time to write Kenya's business history while it is still being made. There is context I will add. Full rejoinder this weekend. boardlot.co.ke/p/the-founder…
Long before the state rolled out its KES 104 billion Social Health Authority (SHA) digitization framework, tech entrepreneur Mike Macharia had already pioneered the architecture for Kenya’s healthcare rails through Seven Seas Technologies. Nearly 16 years earlier, Macharia spearheaded digital health infrastructure models designed to interconnect hospital systems, automate state health workflows, and power remote diagnostics across public facilities, for much less spend. Though political frictions and bureaucratic hurdles ultimately stalled his flagship national healthcare rollout, Macharia's early blueprint laid the core foundation for end-to-end digital health rails in East Africa—demonstrating the viability of integrated tech architecture well before state-led initiatives like SHA mobilized mega-budget reforms. boardlot.co.ke/p/the-founder…

New York has recovered $131.5 million for workers who were underpaid or paid late. Mayor Mamdani: “When a worker earns a wage, they deserve to be paid that wage…on time and in full.” Nairobi is not New York. Still, leadership is measured in delivery. Because every unpaid obligation carries a cost beyond money. It teaches people whether institutions can be believed. @SingoeiAKorir @GTSummit2026 @VinceOgutu #beyondtheballot #trust

You should have read to comprehend and extract some lessons. The sentiments he expresses are very valid. We have killed local entrepreneurs/Entreprise because of public officers who don’t appreciate or care about what effort goes into putting together the type of solution that SST offered. We did similar solutions for multiple sectors of the economy but were stifled by selfish interests. Of course they wouldn’t execute to the vision and levels and extent we were proposing. If government had embraced and deployed the proposed solution, absolutely not to the levels of frustration we are experiencing now. SST was not a Managed Equipment contractor, they were building a digital Managed Health ecosystem. @BoardLotSultan @MikeMachariaSST

"Too often, when one of our own grows tall enough to cast a shadow, the politician steps into the ring. Not as backer. As rival. Ambition that could have been national strategy is treated as a threat, then copied, then abandoned, because a venture built on patronage was never designed to finish. It was designed to be controlled." @MikeMachariaSST @BD_Africa September 24, 2026 That is a special malady inflicting leadership in the African countries.

Dear Michael Macharia Thank you immensely for stepping directly into the arena to share your perspective and set the record straight. When I launched The Silicon Savannah Chronicles—a series documenting the journeys, triumphs, and trials of 25 prominent tech founders—I knew that telling these complex stories would evoke strong reactions. Out of all 25 founders featured, only four have stepped forward to address the material directly, and you are the only one who has gone into such rich, granular detail to give the public the real story from inside the furnace. (For context on the broader project, you can read the series overview here: The Silicon Savannah Chronicles) Read The series here: open.substack.com/pub/boardl… This level of active participation is rare. In a parallel series I write—The 100 Men & Women Who Built Our Capital Markets—we routinely reach out directly to key architects of Kenya's financial systems, yet very few of out of the 100 featured, step up to document their legacy or explain the institutional mechanics behind their decisions: (Series link: The Architects of Capital) Read The series here: open.substack.com/pub/boardl… The overarching purpose of Boardlot Africa is simple: to document the history of African entrepreneurship, corporate governance, and capital formation with the same rigor, depth, and permanence seen in Western markets so that generations of future builders have a real record to study. By engaging so openly, you have made this documentation journey significantly more robust and valid. Rather than issuing a rebuttal, I intend to use the additional context, details, and nuances you’ve shared to deepen our research and further enrich the original piece. True ecosystem building requires leaders willing to discuss both the glory and the heat of the courtroom, boardroom, and battlefield. Thank you for contributing to that record. A finance historian, @BoardLotSultan, wrote Part One of my story. My response isn't a rebuttal. It's the view from inside the room: the founders beside me, the doors that closed, the people who stayed, and why the future is still bright. linkedin.com/pulse/response-…

James Mungai Gachui (25 March 1948 – 16 December 2010) was a pioneering Kenyan chemical engineer, entrepreneur, and investment visionary who founded TransCentury Limited (TCL), one of East Africa’s most ambitious indigenous private equity and infrastructure groups. His life story is deeply rooted in strong family foundations, which shaped his discipline, networks, and long-term vision. open.substack.com/pub/boardl…
