🚨PRORP's funding has been restored to $20 million for FY26!🚨 As you may have seen, Congress passed several funding packages today for FY 2026. As a part of these appropriations, the Department of Defense's Peer Reviewed Orthopaedic Research Program (PRORP) was allotted $20 million dollars for the fiscal year. Since its introduction in 2009, PRORP has delivered cutting-edge short- and long-term healthcare solutions for injured service members and veterans. Many of these innovations are then expanded to the broader public, bringing new care options to surgeons and patients. PRORP lost the entirety of its funding as a part of FY25 budget negotiations, but thanks to ongoing collaboration between AAOS, orthopaedic advocates, and our champions on the Hill, the program received $20 million this year, expanding innovation opportunities for researchers. Our work in restoring PRORP to its full capacity is far from over, but this year's funding will propel research in areas such as advanced prosthetics, nonopioid pain management, and new ways to prevent orthopaedic injuries in the line of duty.
