Noche de la Caridad N.º 610 🌧️ Jueves 22 de octubre Cada jueves, en la Orden de Malta Argentina, celebramos la Noche de la Caridad: un encuentro semanal de fraternidad y servicio concreto a quienes más lo necesitan. Bajo la lluvia, la edición N.º 610 se llevó a cabo con la distinguida presencia del Soberano Consejo, de S.E. la Embajadora María Podestá Herrera y de Fra Dunlop. En estas jornadas reafirmamos los carismas fundacionales de la Orden: la defensa de la fe y la asistencia a los más vulnerables. Ni la lluvia ni las dificultades detuvieron el servicio: la caridad auténtica nace del corazón y se mantiene firme. Agradecemos especialmente al Soberano Consejo, a la Sra. Podestá Herrera y a Fra Dunlop por acompañarnos y honrar este encuentro de entrega y esperanza. PUBLIC STATEMENT SOAR – Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief Buenos Aires Chapter Buenos Aires, 20 October 2026 The Buenos Aires Chapter of the Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief (SOAR) expresses its firm solidarity with the political prisoners in Iran participating in the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign, which today marks its 143rd consecutive week. We note with respect the decision of Mr. Leopoldo Maldonado, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, to undertake a 24-hour solidarity hunger strike alongside the prisoners. We also acknowledge the previous solidarity action of Ms. Gina Romero, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, and the continued attention drawn to the issue by Ms. Mai Sato, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran. The scale of the use of the death penalty against political prisoners and protesters in Iran is deeply alarming. Reports indicate that at least 46 political prisoners and protesters have been executed since 19 March 2026, with more than 100 others remaining on death row. Charges such as moharebeh (waging war on God), baghi (armed rebellion), and efsad-e fel-arz (corruption on earth) continue to be applied in cases involving peaceful protest, political expression, and alleged opposition affiliation—criminalising the exercise of fundamental rights protected under international human rights law. As an organisation dedicated to the defence of human dignity and the prevention of atrocities, SOAR Buenos Aires shares the concern expressed by Mr. Maldonado that the current wave of political executions and death sentences bears disturbing similarities to the pattern that preceded the 1988 massacre of political prisoners. These warning signs cannot be ignored by the international community. We call on the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran to: • immediately halt all executions of political prisoners and protesters; • commute existing death sentences; • review cases that fail to meet fair-trial standards; • investigate allegations of torture and ill-treatment; and • cease the use of capital charges against individuals for the exercise of freedom of expression, assembly, and association. SOAR Buenos Aires stands with the prisoners of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign and with all those who refuse to remain silent in the face of state-sanctioned killings. Silence is not an option.
