Founded in 2015 by a veteran using his war pension while living in a caravan.
11 years later, Anxious Minds has supported thousands of people across the North East with counselling, veteran recovery colleges, peer support and practical help.
Still volunteer-led. Still fighting for funding. Still here for anyone in crisis.

Mental Health is the biggest barrier to employment we are facing here in the North-East yet the is no investment in mental health charities to help fill the gap and support the NHS. With a little support we can do so much more for our young people ❤️
North East Veteran Recovery College Forced to Reduce Services Due to Funding Shortfalls
Mental health and healthcare support for veterans and their families should be a priority, especially during the challenging winter months.
However, due to the ongoing financial pressures facing the charity sector, the North East Veteran Recovery College has been forced to reduce the award-winning mental health services delivered by Anxious Minds to veterans and their families.
With funding increasingly difficult to secure, our ability to provide vital support this winter is severely limited. This comes at a time when many veterans and their loved ones may be facing increased isolation, anxiety, financial pressures and mental health challenges.
No veteran or family should be left without the support they need because of a lack of funding.
At Anxious Minds, we remain committed to supporting those who have served our country and the families who stand beside them. However, without additional funding and support, we cannot continue to meet the growing demand for our services.
We urgently need the support of funders, businesses, community partners and the public to help us protect these vital services and ensure veterans and their families are not left struggling alone this winter.

New project for North East Men From Anxious Minds
Still Here: Men’s Peer Support Project will support men aged 40–60 across the North East who are experiencing suicidal thoughts, emotional distress, isolation or difficult life changes.
The project will offer a consistent, welcoming place to talk with trained peer workers who bring relevant lived experience. Through one-to-one conversations, peer groups and shared activities, men can build connections, explore what is making life difficult and identify steps that feel manageable to them.
Peer workers will also help men connect with practical support, including counselling, health services, benefits or housing advice, and specialist organisations. Where a man needs urgent or clinical help, the project will support a warm connection to the appropriate service.
Still Here will work alongside existing services and provide ongoing peer connection, helping men feel heard, less alone and better supported to take their next step.
