So excited to introduce Infinity, an agent runtime in Rust for extreme concurrency!
Infinity brings a new architecture that treats agent concurrency as a scheduling problem, tool call primitives for asynchronous events, and native support for serverless.

It was awesome to share our work at @awscloud with the Agentic AI community!
Shadaj Laddad from @awscloud is tackling exactly that at AGNTCon + MCPCon NA with “Predictable Correctness for Unpredictable Code.”
The goal? Use Hydro and Rust to catch distributed systems errors at compile time, even when agents write the code.

Absolutely crucial for all urbanists to vote NO on Prop 45!
Prop 45 is just a mass of highways in a trenchcoat

San Francisco’s working class is fighting a hostile takeover of our city’s democracy by the same forces undermining workers’ livelihoods around the globe. We are fighting for a better world, where our society is run by and for working people, not the wealthy.

The industry standard for this would be to rely on NTD data, since it can be compared across US operators.
BART's operating cost per unlinked trip in NTD is about $16. Our operating cost per passenger mile (the state we think best captures the value that BART delivers to the rider) is about $1.15 per mile. Public investment (the cost after netting out the passenger fare) is about $0.88 per mile.
On both operating cost per passenger mile and public subsidy per passenger mile, BART compares favorably with our US heavy rail operator peers.
We don't typically include capital expenditures in this calculation for a particular fiscal year, because those capital investments last for decades.
For analyses that do include capital costs, recognize that to include both capital expenditures and metrics like depreciation/amortization/debt service in a long time series is to count the same investments twice.

Geometry.
Is it real? Or is it fake?
This is, believe it or not, a live debate:

The tragedy here is that UC Berkeley screwed her over not once, but twice. She spent several decades cultivating a high school mathematics program based on Eastern European math circles and university administrators destroyed it with an overzealous interpretation of a new state law for anti-predator fingerprinting requirements so world-class mathematicians could no longer easily give lectures to advanced math HS students. dailycal.org/news/campus/gen…
UC Berkeley Professor Zvezdelina Stankova reveals the semester she first watched a third of her calculus class collapse, having to lower grade cutoffs and redesign her syllabus on the fly
"In spring 2023, I'm teaching calculus two, second semester calculus at Berkeley."
"I had something between 12 and 1400 students in two classes."
"And for the first time, I noticed that about a third of them were disengaged with the class after week two."
"They would not come to lecture. There would be a missed quiz here, not submitted homework there. The first midterm was a disaster. I never seen anything like this before."
"And don't get me wrong, we have still fantastic students at the higher end. But the lower end was so far behind, so many standard deviations behind their classmates."
"So I on the fly had to redesign the syllabus to make it easier, more accessible. I introduced bonus points. I introduced polls in class just for participation. Come and answer these multiple questions on your phone and we will give you some credit."
"And even then, this bottom third did not come to class. I had to revise my grade cutoffs, I lowered them down in order to help students pass the class. And belatedly now, in retrospect, I find that this was a wrong decision."

Hydro has a new landing page hydro.run/ . My favorite Hydro feature remains its built-in deterministic simulation testing. That allows you to simulate distributed programs and test runs against varied distributed schedules, to catch concurrency bugs and race conditions.

Why did we buy newspaper ads in South Carolina and Nevada?
Because Gavin Newsom wants a national audience—and voters deserve to know he supported a plan that could take $2 billion from transit, housing, clean water to benefit industrial polluters.

Last year I had the idea to scan San Francisco's famous Grace Cathedral in very high quality, both inside and out, and build an interactive experience that anyone can use. I'm excited to finally be able to share it with all of you!

Induced demand at its finest. And proof that if we tore down the central freeway the sky wouldn't come with it. I-80 closed all weekend and 101 never backed up past Potrero Hill. When you remove the road, the cars disappear.
