Energy Web's CTO Mani Hagh Sefat shared post about recent Energy Web upgrades including USDC rewards payout to $EWT token stakers and compute providers, liquid staking, BYOT model, verified compute cloud.
Post as below:-
We Just Achieved a First in Web3: USDC Rewards to KYC’d Decentralized Providers
We quietly shipped the final phase of our 2025 tech roadmap last week and with it achieved something we believe is a first in Web3: for the first time, a live commercial solution is paying out rewards in USDC directly to KYC‑verified decentralized compute and staking providers.
This isn’t just a milestone for Energy Web, it’s a first-of-its-kind bridge between real-world enterprise finance and on-chain infrastructure. And that’s only one of the highlights:
- Liquid Staking & stEWT: EWT holders can now stake their tokens to help secure Energy Web X and earn rewards, without losing liquidity. Stakers receive stEWT, a liquid staked EWT token they can use in applications. The uptake was immediate where over 6.5 million EWT (≈8% of supply) got staked in less than a week alone, reflecting strong community interest.
- Multi-Asset Support (BYOT): We introduced “Bring Your Own Token” functionality, enabling external assets to be used natively in our ecosystem. The first implementation: USDC-based rewards. The Sustainable Aviation Fuel certificate (SAFc) registry is now paying its node operators (all KYC/KYB verified) in USDC via on-chain service fees.
- Verified Compute Cloud in Action: Our Verified Compute Cloud (VCC) which is decentralized off-chain computation with on-chain verification went live. The SAFc Registry now uses VCC to continuously validate certificate data with independent worker nodes instead of periodic manual audits. Results are transparently recorded on-chain (we built a new verification explorer to track it), providing real-time trust.
From my perspective as CTO, 2025 has been our most ambitious and strategically important tech year. We seamlessly forked and transitioned the legacy Energy Web Chain, upgraded our substrate-based network (Energy Web X) with a permissionless PoS security model, enabled trust-minimized bridging between our chain and Ethereum, bringing EWT to Ethereum as a standard ERC-20, introduced liquid staking, added multi-token capabilities, and integrated our decentralized compute layer into a real, revenue-generating application. We’ve essentially delivered the core vision outlined in our 2025 technical yellow paper, laying the foundation for our next chapter.
I’m incredibly proud of our team for executing this plan so flawlessly, and grateful to our partners, community, and supporters who made it possible.

What are the Smart Flow Worker Nodes doing?
And 6 reasons WHY 👀
(Besides generating 25% APY on your $EWT...)
@energywebx wrote it down. Let's dive in:
⚡📐 OEP: Operating Envelopes Partitioning
🚫⚡ ZEL: Zero Export Limit
A thread 🧵👇
OEP (Operating Envelopes Partitioning):
Worker Nodes play a key role in managing the flow of energy across the grid by processing “Operating Envelopes.” These are essentially limits set by grid operators (DNSPs) that define how much energy can safely flow through the system at any given time. These limits are updated every 15-30 minutes to account for changes in demand, generation, or grid conditions.
Worker Nodes organize this data by grouping it for specific energy managers (called aggregators) responsible for different parts of the grid. They then verify the data’s accuracy using secure methods, like cryptographic Merkle Trees, to ensure nothing has been altered.
Finally, they send this information to the Energy Web Marketplace, where it’s used to make real-time adjustments to keep the grid balanced and stable.
ZEL (Zero Export Limit):
When energy producers, such as solar farms or generators, need to stop sending power to the grid—whether for maintenance, technical issues, or because there’s already too much power being generated—they issue a “Zero Export Limit” (ZEL) request.
Worker Nodes take these requests and validate them to ensure they’re legitimate. They then match each energy producer’s request to the appropriate energy managers (aggregators) using a directory of energy assets, called the NMI Registry. After dividing the requests by aggregator, the Worker Nodes verify the data using secure methods to make sure it’s tamper-proof.
Finally, the processed data is sent to the Energy Web Marketplace, where it helps manage energy flows efficiently and prevents the grid from being overloaded.
6 REASONS
Why is it absolutely necessary for AEMO to manage this in a decentralized way?
As the grid becomes more complex with renewable energy sources like solar and wind, the way energy is managed needs to change. Traditionally, organizations like AEMO (Australian Energy Market Operator) managed energy flows centrally, making all the decisions from one point. But this approach has limitations in today’s energy landscape. Here’s why decentralization is crucial:
1. Massive Growth in Renewable Energy:
Solar panels, wind farms, and batteries are now spread across the country. Thousands of smaller energy producers, big and small, are connected to the grid. A centralized system struggles to efficiently handle this massive volume of data and decisions in real time.
2. Real-Time Adjustments Are Critical:
Renewable energy production depends on weather conditions, which change constantly. For example, solar energy depends on sunlight, and wind turbines need the right wind speeds. A decentralized system allows decisions to be made faster and closer to where energy is being produced and consumed.
3. Resilience and Security:
Decentralization spreads the responsibility of managing energy flows across multiple nodes (like Worker Nodes) rather than relying on a single system. This reduces the risk of a single point of failure, making the energy network more secure and resilient to outages or cyberattacks.
4. Trust and Transparency:
In a decentralized system, data about energy production, consumption, and limits is processed securely using cryptographic tools like Merkle Trees. This ensures the data can’t be tampered with, giving everyone (grid operators, energy producers, and consumers) confidence in the system’s fairness and accuracy.
5. Scalability for the Future:
As more homes, businesses, and communities install renewable energy systems and participate in the grid, a centralized approach would struggle to keep up. Decentralization allows the grid to scale naturally, letting more players join and contribute without overwhelming the system.
6. Empowering Local Energy Managers:
By using decentralized systems like the ZEL (Zero Export Limit) and OEP (Operating Envelopes Partitioning) processes, local energy managers (aggregators) can make decisions for their own areas based on real-time data. This ensures that the energy flows are optimized for local conditions while still maintaining overall grid stability.

🌍💡 To all EWX node operators:
Ever wonder what your @XEnergyWeb Worker Nodes are really doing?
Let's dive in!
$EWT 🚀
If you're running Project EDGE flows like AU EDGE OEP v4 and AU EDGE ZEL v4, you're playing a key role in revolutionizing how energy is managed across decentralized systems. But what exactly do these flows do?
🔎 What’s happening under the hood:
1. Data Fetching:
Your node is actively fetching data from the OE Registry. this includes NMIs (National Metering Identifiers), which are unique IDs for energy assets. Think of these as digital fingerprints for energy consumers and producers.
This data is pulled from marketplace-cdn.energyweb.or… and other AEMO endpoints (ZEL/OEP), ensuring it has up-to-date info on which energy assets are being monitored.
2. Grouping & Validation:
After fetching the NMI data, your node groups them by owner.
It uses a validation process to ensure these NMIs are correctly associated with their respective owners. This makes sure that the energy export and import limits apply to the right assets.
This step processes energy usage data, assigning NMIs to the correct owners, using AEMO’s framework.
3. Partitioning & Limit Allocation:
Based on time-varying export and import limits calculated by AEMO, your node partitions the NMIs and applies the limits to ensure that energy usage stays efficient.
For example, during times of low demand, export limits might be reduced to avoid overloading the grid.
In this flow, energy assets are assigned their limits, making sure that retailers and aggregators manage energy flows smoothly.
4. Merkle Tree Generation:
This is where blockchain magic happens! Your node generates a Merkle Tree, a cryptographic data structure that ensures the integrity of the data. This ensures that no tampering occurs between data fetching and reporting.
Think of it like a highly secure proof system that guarantees the data you’re sending is 100% verified and untampered.
5. Reporting & Sending Data:
Finally, your node packages this data and sends it off to the Energy Web Marketplace via API calls. This data is then used to adjust energy flows in real-time, ensuring that the grid operates smoothly.
Specifically, calls are made to marketplace-oe-sender-prod.e… and /oep, which communicate with the EWX Marketplace to finalize and report the validated energy data.
📜 How we know this:
We analyzed Node-red flows in json, terminal output, SQLite databases, IPFS storage, and performed API requests directly to endpoints, pulling in raw NMI data and validated outputs.
This deep dive into the flows revealed the exact steps your node takes to ensure proper energy management.
All of this is outlined in the official AEMO Project EDGE technical documentation:
Project EDGE Data Spec:
aemo.com.au/-/media/files/in…
Project EDGE Open API Spec:
aemo.com.au/-/media/files/in…
👨💻 The Flows:
Your AU EDGE OEP (Operating Envelope Protocol) manages export/import limits for distribution companies.
AU EDGE ZEL (Zero-Export Limit) ensures that excess energy is curtailed during low-demand times to avoid financial losses.
In other words, your node helps manage how much energy can be exported or imported into the grid, keeping the system efficient and cost-effective!
This all boils down to one big takeaway:
As an EWX node operator, your role is crucial in balancing energy demand and supply, ensuring the decentralized energy system runs smoothly and securely. 🙌
