Hi Lanett♥️ In response to the theme of mountains, I found myself thinking not of distant peaks, but of the ground beneath our feet. This work begins with a simple fragment of a sidewalk in a city in Iran. Ordinary stone tiles, weathered by time, carrying the daily weight of footsteps, pauses, memories, and absences. To me, these stones are a different kind of mountain: silent surfaces that endure, witness, and hold the traces of countless human lives. Upon this ground, I painted flowers that gradually emerge across the pavement. Their appearance is gentle, almost fragile, yet each flower stands as a marker of a life once present. Together, they form a landscape of remembrance. Not a monument to heroes or symbols, but to ordinary human beings whose lives were interrupted by conflict, violence, and war. Created during days marked by war, this work is both a personal response and an act of reflection. Rather than depicting destruction directly, I chose to focus on what remains beneath and beyond it: memory, grief, and the persistent possibility of life. The flowers do not erase the stone beneath them. They rest upon it, just as memory rests upon history. Mountains are often symbols of endurance, burden, and the difficult act of carrying on. In this work, the sidewalk becomes its own mountain, bearing the invisible weight of loss while continuing to exist as part of everyday life. The flowers emerge not as celebrations, but as quiet acts of resistance against forgetting. This piece is not a celebration of beauty. It is a refusal: a refusal to normalize loss, to reduce human lives to numbers, or to allow silence to become acceptance.
