It’s been a while, but math has been so fun lately! We’ve made triangles out of spaghetti noodles to figure out what creates a triangle and non-triangle and have created triangles to build knowledge on how many degrees make up a triangle. @TeaysValleyWest @CPMmath

Branching from my normal content to share some repetitive experiences from this year - I can’t count the number of conversations I’ve had with people who when I share that I’m a math teacher with, they respond “Math is just so different these days.”
“New” math encourages students to become problem solvers rather than leaning on mostly memorization. “New” math looks for more than just the answer, it looks for students to justify their answer, explain their thinking and back it up with evidence.
Math nowadays is real world math, which has made me love it even more. More moments of understanding and gaining knowledge is so powerful. #math #mathteaching

ELA ➡️ We’re focusing our efforts into authors craft. Students chose an author and book to read then set goals to finish their books. Almost all students are ahead in their reading goal, some even finishing MULTIPLE BOOKS! So excited to see passion for reading! @TeaysValleyWest
Two weeks of math ➡️ We’ve worked on finding the constant of proportionality/unit rate and worked to graph proportional relationships. We’ve also worked on finding the better deal, how we can have an environmental impact and expanding our reasoning skills. @TeaysValleyWest
