After 1 month of training at Apex Performance Lab. He’s put on 15lbs and improved his speed/agility in that short time. Can’t wait to see what he looks like after the next 4 months heading into highschool baseball. @OHScoutBaseball @Mitchell_Bault @prepbaseball @Jax_Mabery21

This platform can be used for a lot of good. Educate. Share ideas. Challenge each other. Highlight great training. Create conversations that make coaches and athletes better. But if you want credibility, earn it.

Anyone can break down someone else’s work from behind a screen. And hindsight is always 20/20. A lot less pressure on you when you’re not even involved. Build something worth talking about yourself.

Social media has created an epidemic of borrowed credibility. Apparently all you need to do is screen record a professional athlete, do a voice over and suddenly you’re qualified to explain what they’re doing wrong and how you would’ve done it better. Hell of a business model.

Pretty predictable formula: Find something “wrong” with a famous athlete. Explain why everyone else missed it. Tell everyone how your system would fix it. Wait for something to go wrong. Post the victory lap. At some point we stopped educating and started manufacturing expertise

The injury stuff might be even worse. Jaxson Dart gets his knee caught in a hit from two defenders and somehow people are reverse engineering the injury back to the way he WALKS. Apparently every freak injury is predictable after it happens. Give me a break.

Paul Skenes’ velocity is down. That’s a fact. Discussing why is interesting. Pretending you know exactly why from watching video and conveniently tying it back to YOUR training program is something completely different. You don’t know the full scope. You have Twitter.

But when Skenes, Misiorowski, or any other pro becomes evidence that YOUR programming works or YOUR philosophy is correct…that’s borrowed credibility. You didn’t develop them. You don’t coach them. Their success isn’t on your resume

To be clear, using pros to educate is awesome. Use their mechanics as a visual. Compare similar movement patterns. Highlight quality training. Show an athlete, “Hey, you move a lot like this guy.” There’s a ton to learn from watching the best in the world.

At the college level, We’ve developed an over-fixation with time to the plate. All I hear is sub 1.4 We spend so much time worrying about whether the runner can steal second that sometimes it starts to overshadow the pitcher’s primary responsibility: Getting the hitter out. 🧵

Sometimes go quick. Sometimes hold. Sometimes lift. Sometimes slide step. Sometimes throw over. Don’t just make yourself faster. Make the runner slower. Manage the runner without allowing him to dictate the quality of the pitch. The hitter always comes first.

The more you train this the less thoughtful you need to be in game and then you can focus on the hitter one pitch at a time. Here is an example from a bullpen over the summer where a college pitcher asked to help with holding runners. Hope this helps🧵
