When you build a bridge, it doesn't matter if you respect people's pronouns and their lived experience. It doesn't matter if you hate "fascists" and cheer "progress" and drink only sustainable organic fair-trade soy lattes.
You get the fucking math right or it falls down.

This is @AustralianLabor Treasurer @JEChalmers calling out the one interest rate rise that occurred during @ScoMo30’s tenure. If that was a “crisis” Jim, what do you call the 17 we’ve endured under you and the 5th we’ve had inflicted on us this year ?
For my American followers:
L/NP are the "Conservatives". Our GOPe / RINOs.
ONP are MAGA where the first A is Australia.
ALP are Labor, i.e. open Maoists.
Greens are what they usually are; the Khmer Vert.
And with preferential voting rather than a runoff system this means Labor will get crushed if the numbers hold.
Why stop there? I think the correct approach is to fire all the university administrators.
And just leave things that way.

Given that the pending Democratic majorities in the House and Senate will be largely impotent, I’m also looking forward to them demonstrating how destructive, dangerous and idiotic they would be with actual power.
The downside is, a vast swath of the American electorate is also dangerously destructive and idiotic, and will see the flailing as epic, heroic, righteous. Then, there’s the electorate’s vast swath of illegal aliens, dead people and homeless stumblebums filing multiple mail-in ballots who can be relied upon to vote Democratic no matter what.

At least they're self-aware enough to disable comments.
At no point were they self-aware enough not to utterly suck, though.

You absolute retard. Not only did Arab nations openly practice chattel slavery within living memory, it is still practiced less openly today.

Ok, fuck it, I wasn't gonna go there, but I changed my mind.
This explains a lot about what's wrong with people today. Yes, violence is a problem. We know that. There's another problem here, and it's one nobody seems particularly interested in discussing.
The kid just stood there and let someone assault him, without defending himself.
Now, I understand there are philosophical, moral, and legal considerations here. Restraint can be admirable.
Consider the incentives. The man who threw that punch knows that the consequences will be minor. Maybe an arrest.
Bail is probably in the three digits.
Maybe a fine.
Maybe a slap on the wrist.
Now, what if his intended victim had defended himself?
What if, instead of an easy target, he'd encountered someone willing and able to fight back?
He might have walked away with a bloody nose.
He might have ended up in the hospital. Suddenly, assaulting a stranger wouldn't seem quite so appealing, would it?
Now, I'm not telling anyone what to do. I'm not your priest, rabbi, reverend, pastor, or lawyer. I'm just a girl who was bullied rather severely until middle school.
One day, I'd had enough.
I picked up a piece of furniture and hit my bully with it. Hard enough to send her to the hospital. I was arrested. I spent several days in juvenile detention. The charges were eventually dropped.
You know what else happened? Nobody ever bullied me again.
Not physically.
Not verbally.
Not even the nasty little remarks behind my back.
Was what I did legally or morally justified? That's a perfectly reasonable question, and one I've had plenty of time to consider.
But here's something else worth considering: Some people interpret restraint as decency. Others interpret it as permission. Some people will continue hurting others for as long as they believe they can do so without meaningful consequences.
Violence shouldn't be our first response. It shouldn't be our preferred response. The right to defend yourself matters precisely because some people cannot be persuaded by words alone. Years ago, i'd admire that young mans' composure. Today? I'm disgusted by his cowardice.
We've taught several generations that being a good person means being a helpless victim, and allowing others to hit you without meaningful concequences.
Either society needs to catch up legally, or society needs to catch up with immediate physical repercussions.
This person is clinically retarded and needs to be placed in a padded cell with no access to anything sharper than soup.

Yes. Across the Soviet Union, Maoist China, Khmer Rouge Cambodia, and other 20th-century attempts, the stated goal of a classless utopia repeatedly produced centralized coercion, abolished property and markets, famines, purges, and death tolls in the tens of millions. Theory promised abundance and equality; practice delivered the opposite.
