The state pension is the floor, not the roof.
The government owns the floor. The walls (workplace pension) and the roof (your own savings) are yours.
Women: check your state pension forecast this week. It takes minutes.

Most financial plans assume a life most women don't live, one with no career breaks, no caring and no part-time years.
If your plan keeps falling apart, it isn't you. It's the template.
Today, start with one step: find your old pensions, ask what your investments cost, and put a review date in the diary.

Information, not advice. Capital at risk.
The full new state pension is ÂŁ241.30 a week - about 40% of what Pensions UK says a moderate retirement for one person costs.
A floor, not a shelter. Here’s how to build the walls and the roof 👇

Who actually pays your state pension?
Not your past self. Today’s workers do.
The UK state pension is largely pay-as-you-go – and the triple lock is about to change.
A short thread 🧵
1/4
From 2030 - 31 the triple lock is due to change: still at least CPI or 2.5% a year, but no more permanent “ratchet” above earnings.
The @IFS says the long-run savings could be anywhere from £4bn to £20bn a year – not enough on its own to fund a National Care Service, but would go towards it.

The state pension is the floor of your retirement. It was never meant to be the roof.

The UK is the lowest-saving and investing nation in the G7. Pension poverty isn't a future risk. It's the trajectory we're on now.
With 41% of young men investing vs 20% of young women, that gap starts early and compounds for 40 years.

The State Pension is the floor. Your own pension is the house that offers you shelter in retirement.
Too many women are being left out in the cold of pension poverty

As the state pension debate rages on, one thing is certain: it was never designed to fund a comfortable retirement on its own.
Living well, not counting pennies, means acting sooner, not later. Time is your biggest ally.

*Capital at risk
It’s #UKSavingsWeek. And here’s the truth no one tells women about pension saving: You can save your whole life carefully and still retire with a 1/3 less than men.
But it’s not you. It’s the system. 🧵

The fix is more doable than the numbers suggest. Tips:
• Trace every old pension
• Claim your full employer match
• Keep contributing through career breaks (a partner can pay in for you)
• Get NI credits
• Invest - don’t leave money only in cash. A slow puncture
• Know exactly what you’re paying

Women hold more of their money in cash than men.
Bank Rate: 3.75%. What platforms pay on cash: under 1% - 2.8%. The rest they pocket – and it falls hardest on women.
It appears on no fee schedule anywhere. @thatginamiller has asked @TheFCA to change that
