The State Water Board will schedule for 2025 its long-awaited hearing about #MonoLake and implementation of the mandated, healthy 6,392-foot surface elevation. The hearing is the way to get Mono Lake the water it needs. Read more here: monolake.org/today/state-wat…
Back in May DWP committed to helping preserve #MonoLake's 2023 rise by exporting less water than what is allowed. But that collaborative approach didn't last. In November DWP quietly reversed its plan and began maximizing water exports. Read more here: monolake.org/today/dwp-aband…

Thanks to the support of more than 430 donors, we achieved our #GivingTuesday goal of raising $60,000 to be matched for #MonoLake. It was a stretch to make it because this is the biggest match we've ever had for Giving Tuesday, but we did it!📷 Andrew Youssef
In total, we raised more than $130,000 for #MonoLake. We're especially grateful as we prepare for a State Water Board hearing, expected next year, which will consider changes to the current water diversion rules to finally allow Mono Lake to rise to its healthy level.

CalEPA and State Water Board staff recently visited Mono Lake with a delegation from Utah, which provided an opportunity for California and Utah to discuss management of saline lakes.
Attendees included members of the Kootzaduka’a Tribe; @Mono_Lake; @LADWP; @AirResources; @CaliforniaDFW; @CAStateParks; the Great Basin Air District; a Utah delegation including the Great Salt Lake Commissioner, @UtahDNR Executive Director and others; and federal representatives from the @USACEHQ, @forestservice and @USGS.

Happy Save Mono Lake Day! Today we're celebrating 30 years of Mono Lake's protection. On September 28, 1994 the State Water Board amended the City of Los Angeles’ water licenses to require that Mono Lake be protected at the healthy level of 6,392 feet above sea level.
With 8.6 feet of water still needed to reach that goal, we're working to get another hearing scheduled with the State Water Board so #MonoLake can get the water it deserves. #keepsavingmonolake 📷 courtesy of George Ward
Tomorrow marks 30 years since the State Water Board issued Decision 1631, the decision to save Mono Lake! It's a moment to celebrate—the decision protected Mono Lake by setting a management level to protect the public trust and make sure the lake is healthy.
However, Mono Lake is still 8.6 feet below that required level, so this anniversary is also a reminder to keep fighting for the water the lake deserves. #keepsavingmonolake
