Excellent read on why much of the Western economy is “inflated.” 📖 For future competitiveness & sovereignty, look for the following in a country: ⚡️ Low energy & resource costs 🌾 Food self-sufficiency 🧠 Skilled people + investment in R&D Russia has all three — and that stability is worth a premium in the turbulent times ahead. It enables growth and development in a world in flux — likely the defining challenge of this century. 🇷🇺 This is why Russia is an excellent place to be for you and your whole family 👍 #Economy #Energy #FoodSecurity #RND #Russia
𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗔, 𝗨𝗦𝗔, 𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗔. 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗚𝗗𝗣 𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦𝗡'𝗧 𝗧𝗘𝗟𝗟 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟 𝗘𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗬. What is the "real economy," really? An economy is energy. Coal, oil, gas, uranium, sun, wind, water. Then people work with it and turn it into things we use. Steel. Cement. Food. Chips. Trains. 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸. Look at China in the last thirty years. Rice fields became factory zones. The West laughed at "cheap Chinese junk." Today that junk is fast trains and electric cars. No bank built that. 𝗘𝗡𝗘𝗥𝗚𝗬 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗦 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 Every country that got rich used much more energy on the way up. Britain had coal. America had oil. 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱. No rich country runs on candles. So my first question is easy. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁? But energy alone is just heat. You need workers and engineers. That's real value. 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗕𝗟𝗘𝗠 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗚𝗗𝗣 GDP doesn't see any of this. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗗𝗣, 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲. A lawyer charges 1,000 dollars an hour, GDP goes up. Nobody built a bridge. Then they count everything in US dollars, so America looks huge. A haircut in New York costs 60 dollars. In Chengdu it's about 30 yuan. Same haircut. That's why purchasing power parity (PPP) matters. What can your money buy at home? 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗠𝗙'𝘀 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮. 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱. Funny how CNN never mentions it. 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗦? This is the real test. Can a country make its own steel, ships, medicine, chips, weapons? 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱. Most ships. Most steel. Most batteries. That's power. America and Europe went the other way. From the 1980s they sent their factories to Asia and kept the "clean" jobs. Banks, brands, consultants. 𝗟𝗲𝘁 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝘄𝗲'𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗶𝘁. Then Covid came, and the West couldn't even make masks. Then Ukraine, and NATO didn't have enough shells. Now Washington wants factories back. Too late? 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗬 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗦 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 The problem is money that just moves around. Share buybacks. Funds that buy a company, load it with debt, fire half the workers and sell what's left. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. In 2008 it wasn't factories that crashed. It was paper. 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘 𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗬 Forget the GDP headline. Look at this: • Energy per person. • How big industry is. • Steel, power, ships and cars. • Engineers every year. • GDP with PPP. The world looks very different from CNBC. 𝗕𝗢𝗧𝗧𝗢𝗠 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗔 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹. The West thought it could live on banks while others did the real work. That's dependence. China did the opposite. Energy and industry first. Banks under control. Look where it is now. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻'𝘁 𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲. 𝗕𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱.

💯 correct viewpoint based on fundamental experience and knowledge that only a handful of people in the world have and even fewer, in the west, dare to say it publicly. 👍
Replying to @izakaminska
I am so sick of these childish walk outs. Russia is a fast-growing major economy, a storehouse of all energy and mineral wealth, and better managed than any G7 state with low debt and rising real wages. Russians are winning the Ukraine war. We need to figure out how to prosper in peace together because Europe is permanently poorer without Russia.

The Netherlands feels broken. France is literally on fire. Belgian politics feels increasingly dysfunctional too. For the first time in my life, I’m seriously considering a Plan B. I’ve been talking about it with my family, and honestly, the fact that we’re even having these conversations is starting to scare me. Europe feels like it’s reaching a breaking point.

This is indeed the road to recovery - even if it takes 100 years - this is the correct path. 👍
The UK is a rogue state. Worse, a failed state. Its institutions from the Palace through the parliament to the police and virtually the whole public realm are unfit for purpose. That is why I now support independence for Scotland and Wales and as I always have the reunification of Ireland. Cutting Little England down to size is necessary but not sufficient for national recovery.

As funding is getting cut on everything in the west - this will be more and more a normal occurrence. Who knows, maybe 5 years from now one could taste a new French delicacy - a kebab made out of those little animals. 🤔 Things will not get better, thus one need to move.

The math on seeing every piece, at the Tretyakov museum 👇

“15,800 hours of staring” 😆 omg no; my mind was frazzled after one afternoon.
If your job was “look at Russian art,” with 5 minutes on every object, 160 hours a month, and 4 weeks of vacation so you don’t lose your mind: Tretyakov Gallery (~190,000 works) About 15,800 hours of staring. Clock-in, clock-out, no skipping the icons. Roughly 9 years. You’d retire having seen every peach. 🍑 🖼️ Same contract at the Hermitage Museum (3.15 million items). About 262,500 hours. Same hours, same vacation, same “just one more room.” Roughly 150 years. 🪙 😎

Another first: spent the afternoon at 🖼️ Tretyakov Gallery 😍 The couple I went with are both very knowledgeable about history, plus, one is an art historian; so, a sort of private tour. Now I can identify an artist’s thought process using brushstrokes, the golden ratio importance, and our tour laughed the most. Saw 80% of the main building, and so many of Russia’s most famous paintings; got pics of them all ✅
