So I was mistakenly suspended yesterday, for about 14 hours. (You suck, EA) It took awhile to correct this and now that I'm back I'd like to take the opportunity to spread some helpful information on game preservation, why this is legal and why its protected: Please Share this, spread the knowledge and most importantly KEEP FIGHTING. The Library of Congress grants preservation exemptions every 3 years. The exemptions allow: >>>> Libraries, museums, and archives to >circumvent DRM for non-commercial preservation of games, >run servers for online-only games (if the official servers shut down), >preserve games that are no longer commercially available. You as a consumer own nothing today. Everything is on a license that can and will eventually be revoked. Games are removed from sale, sometimes marketplaces entirely and are no longer downloadable. Nothing is safe from this anymore. Acts of preservation like this are the last defense to your rights as a consumer. Modern digital games are licensed, not sold. That means: A company can delist a game at any time A storefront can remove your ability to download it A publisher can abandon support Entire libraries can vanish overnight We’ve already seen this happen with dozens of titles. When nothing guarantees permanent access... not even purchasing -Preservation is the only defense consumers have when companies let older games die. I want to remind you I am a passionate new modder that works very hard. I worked hard to build this platform and it was nearly destroyed for no reason. It is legal for people to update, maintain, and revitalize software that companies like EA no longer care to sell or provide to their paying customers. Whether that is textures, fixes for modern OS and wide screen, visual upgrades, Steam Deck compatibility, and or other features. Companies often abandon these games. Modders don’t. We restore them, modernize them, and keep them playable for new generations. It is legal, necessary, and historically valuable.
