Naysayer - according to M. Pennycook

Thank you very much, Simon! On the point of why higher rates, it’s the concept of discount rates. So you’re valuing the present value of future cash flows. The higher the rate, the more you’re shrinking future money down to what it is worth today.
The consultation is couched in very technocratic terms but Harry Scoffin has made a simple guide through pretty much all of it. It's less complicated than it appears.

Leaseholders, last chance! Government consultation on lease extension and freehold buy-out rates CLOSING 11:59PM TONIGHT. Don’t let Rayner keep sleeping at the wheel while Pennycook and lobbyists swap notes to screw you. Use our briefing to respond: freeleaseholders.org.uk/our-…
DO YOUR JOB, RAYNER Lewis Goodall last month. Nick Ferrari this morning. On Ferrari’s show, @AngelaRayner could have raised awareness of a consultation that could help end leasehold for good and stop millions of people being fleeced in their own homes, as Labour promised in its manifesto. As on Goodall’s show, she didn’t. Why the hell not? Has she even seen the consultation? What does she make of its impenetrable language and design? Twice, Rayner has hidden behind @mtpennycook, claiming he’s busting a gut to free leaseholders. So why has Pennycook changed his tune since opposition, as @thetimes reports today? And why isn’t Rayner holding him to his word? After all, as Secretary of State, she’s his boss. He’s the junior minister. It stinks. Leaseholders: don’t let Rayner sleep at the wheel while Pennycook and the freeholder lobby stitch up your future in the shadows. Respond to the enfranchisement rates consultation before the 11:59pm deadline on Wednesday. Use our briefing to help you: freeleaseholders.org.uk/our-…

LEASEHOLDERS! One of the greatest rip-offs in history and Labour are bottling it. ACT BEFORE 11:59PM TONIGHT. Respond to the government consultation on lease extension and freehold buy-out rates using our briefing to help you: freeleaseholders.org.uk/our-… RESPOND OR REGRET IT.
Embarrassing! @AngelaRayner shouldn’t let the threat of lawfare from lobbyists dictate policy. Labour promised to free leaseholders. Parliament is sovereign. Stop diluting the reforms. If rentier interests want to sue, let them. This should be classic Labour territory.

Leaseholders, the government is laughing at you. In opposition, @mtpennycook demanded premiums be reduced to “their lowest possible level”. Now he’s ruled that out. Don’t let him and the lobbyists win. Respond by 11:59pm tomorrow using our briefing: freeleaseholders.org.uk/our-…

Asked when leasehold will end, Angela Rayner gave Nick Ferrari “legally complex”, “very soon” and “watch this space”. No date. No detail. Leaseholders have been watching for years. The rates consultation closes 11:59pm Wednesday. Respond: freeleaseholders.org.uk/our-…

The reasons taxes keep going up
Starbucks UK did £556m in sales last year… and paid no corporation tax. Yes they paid NICs and collected VAT - but so does every company. Maybe instead of crushing the life out of UK SMEs, the government should focus on large multi nationals.

Arrogant and offensive. Can you imagine having to work with these truth twisters?
In opposition, @mtpennycook pushed for rates that made enfranchisement “as cheap as possible for leaseholders”. Now in power, in the small print of a consultation, he says prescribed rates won’t be used to reduce leaseholders’ premiums. This stinks. And @thetimes knows it.

When senior Bloomberg writers like @John_Stepek feel they must caveat that government figures may not be reliable, it lends credibility to the feeling many of us have: That the true unemployment picture is far, far worse at street level than the national figures suggest. I don't recognise today's figures as having any basis in reality. And I don't trust this government's reporting of the figures any more than the last one.

You are getting the message out @HarryScoffin @FreeLeasehlders. It is clear this sham consultation (that is deliberately constructed to deter participation by ordinary leaseholders) will allow @mtpennycook to appease the freehold cartel. Where is @AngelaRayner? AWOL.
Leaseholders are experiencing suicidal ideation and selling their cars to meet their freeholders’ extortion demands. Yet a Labour government has ruled out using Tory rate-setting powers to make it cheaper for the exploited to buy out their exploiters. Me in @thetimes tonight 👇

Behind the rates consultation are real people. LHs under enormous financial pressure from costs we never agreed to & cannot control. The deferment & capitalisation rates decide how big that bill is. The gov says it doesn’t want to use their power to lower it. Why? @HarryScoffin

Replying to @HarryScoffin
@HarryScoffin is right. Labour promised to “finally bring the feudal leasehold system to an end.” Instead, we get a consultation that leans towards rates set in a 2007 court case, won by the freeholder lobby. The consultation closes this Wednesday. Tell them what we want. 9%.
While we’re all distracted by TikTok videos, the government is busy stuffing ground rent grifters’ mouths with gold at leaseholders’ expense. Taking back control for the people, just not the little people!

We are losing our jobs and homes, and the best Labour can do is ‘parking should be straightforward’.
Parking should be straightforward, not another everyday hassle. Today we’re putting the brakes on rip-off parking charges - meaning drivers get a fairer deal, protections from being unfairly charged, and confidence that private parking providers are held to a higher standard. It's yet another step forward in this government’s plan to take the stress out of everyday life and ease the pressure on people's pockets.
