A 2-sec animation could take more than 2 days.
This was a laborious scene I animated last year.
It would be painful to render the glossy transparent look in 3D (with other reasons as well).
So we did it with 2D in After Effects.

Bill for this time. I include layering/rigging hours in every project separate from design and animation hours. It is a vital process when revisiting and if you ever pass working files to another animator. (Additional tip: include a clause that working files must be purchased.)
