It’s been extreme amusing watching the boomers freak out over Matt.
The boomers have largely reacted emotionally with Matt just stating facts.
Nobody stopped you from investing in the stock market. If you never did that at any point in your life, that’s on you. You’re a grown adult. Take some responsibility. You have golf clubs as your profile pic and “real estate” in your handle. Hard for me to believe that you’re impoverished. If you admit that it’s a “shit system” then you should want nothing more than to fix it for the sake of your descendants. But instead it sounds like you want to get whatever you can out of it and leave your grandchildren holding the bag. That’s actually a despicable, selfish mentality, and it’s about time we start calling it what it is. I’m floating some ideas to fix the problem but you’re making it clear, as so many of your peers have made it clear, that you do not want it to be fixed if the solution will inconvenience you in any way at all. Meanwhile, your generation spent decades voting exclusively for politicians who would prop up the very “shit system” that you’re now complaining about. Again, where does personal responsibility factor in here? If you want young people to stop bitching and take ownership of their own lives and choices, when will you do the same?
A gorgeous eruption (accompanying a coronal wave) associated with an M1.4 flare from AR 14549. The CME may be Earth-bound for 9-Oct arrival.
Personal note: I have been hospitalized since 15-Sep. I think the most critical phase has passed, and look forward to come back soon.

Bullseye! Our Sun finally aims straight, launching a big solar storm directly at Earth. Impact: Early October 9 UTC time. This is the best coronal blast wave I've seen in a long time. Kudos to @HaloCME for the analysis despite being on the mend. Please help me wish an esteemed colleague and SDO/AIA team member a speedy recovery!
Update to this.
I’m now walking almost 1.5 to 2+ miles almost everyday.
I’ve lost approximately 5 pounds so far but my endurance has only gotten so much better.
Another thing to mention is that I have had zero changes to my diet. I always thought the “easy” way to get healthy and lose weight was to change my diet. I couldn’t be farther from the truth; walking and biking is so much easier to keep in the habit of.
I’m going through my own health journey. My main issue is that I’m fat. Which has affected other areas on my health, like high blood pressure.
I think I’ve realized that through the many failures I’ve had with trying to lose weight was because I was just focusing on the scale as the main subject.
I started walking a mile everyday for the past few weeks. I haven’t really lost any weight BUT I have noticed significant improvements in my general health. I don’t feel winded really at all going up stairs, I have much more endurance/stamina while doing my daily activities, I feel physically and mentally better, and I can actually walk without feeling like it’s a chore.
That’s all happened with the scale not moving much at all.
I finally realized I need to improve my cardiovascular health, not the number on the scale. That will go down eventually, slowly, but having the focus changed to cardiovascular health feels like it’ll make my weight loss journey much more tangible and real.
Thank you for joining my Ted Talk.
Maybe I can finally see a tornado this year! Illinois has been hogging them.
🌪️ OMAHA, NE — SEVERE WEATHER FORECAST | MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14
Confidence continues to increase that eastern Nebraska into western Iowa will have a legitimate severe-weather setup Monday afternoon and evening, including the Omaha metro. The latest forecast guidance supports a warm, increasingly unstable air mass developing ahead of the approaching system, with Omaha climbing into the mid-80s. Current forecast information specifically highlights the potential for damaging winds, large hail, flash flooding, and a tornado with the stronger storms.
⚡ THE ENVIRONMENT: The RAP imagery is particularly interesting. By Monday evening, it develops a corridor of roughly 3,000–4,500+ J/kg of surface-based CAPE across portions of eastern Nebraska/western Iowa. At the same time, the forecast hodographs show appreciable curvature and strengthening winds with height. That combination would provide both the instability and wind shear necessary for organized supercells if storms can remain discrete.
🌪️ TORNADO POTENTIAL: The RAP’s Significant Tornado Parameter becomes strongly enhanced immediately north/northeast of Omaha into western Iowa, with the most impressive values centered roughly from eastern Nebraska toward west-central Iowa. STP should never be interpreted as a tornado forecast by itself, but the overlap of instability, low-level shear and favorable hodographs shown in these runs is notable. The SPC outlook you posted currently has a 5% tornado probability across much of eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, including the broader Omaha region.
⛈️ STORM MODE: The biggest thing I’ll be watching is whether storms can develop as isolated/discrete supercells before eventually growing upscale. Any storm that remains isolated in the warm sector could quickly become severe, with large to potentially significant hail, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes. If storms merge into a line faster, damaging winds would become increasingly prominent, although embedded tornadoes could remain possible.
🕕 TIMING: Based on the guidance you’ve posted, the period around late afternoon through the evening — roughly 4–9 PM CDT — deserves the most attention, although that window can still shift as higher-resolution guidance gets closer. Your StormNet image also concentrates its tornado signal around the Omaha/eastern Nebraska region near 6–7 PM. That should be treated as model guidance rather than an exact prediction of when or where a tornado will occur.
📍 CHASE AREA: For chasing, I would initially favor the Omaha area northward/northeastward into eastern Nebraska and eventually western Iowa, while watching where the warm front/outflow boundaries establish themselves. The strongest tornado environment on the RAP appears displaced somewhat north and northeast of Omaha, so boundary placement Monday afternoon could make a major difference.
⚠️ BOTTOM LINE: Monday has the ingredients for a potentially active severe-weather afternoon/evening around Omaha and surrounding eastern Nebraska/western Iowa. If sufficient clearing and destabilization occur and storms stay discrete, a few supercells could become intense. Tornadoes 🌪️, very large hail 🧊, damaging winds 💨 and torrential rainfall 🌧️ are all hazards to watch. The exact tornado threat will depend heavily on morning convection, cloud cover, boundary placement and eventual storm mode.
I’m using 10% more energy compared to energy efficient homes. This was during the time that we had that nasty heat in the end of June and into July. Kept the house a comfortable 72 degrees with 5 window ACs.
My house was built in 1908, made of brick and mortar, and has no insulation.
Why are energy efficient homes doing so poorly relatively?
