Old episodes turn into new inventory once a tool can recut them, which makes a soap with more than 9,300 of them a large library. Fremantle, Neighbours' producer, is working with RoseBerry Media, which makes vertical episodes for phones, to recut old Neighbours footage with an AI-assisted tool for its Epis platform, the Guardian reports. The first series centers on Margot Robbie's 2008 to 2011 storylines, two of them cut into about 150 minutes. Stefan Dennis told the Herald Sun the project is "unbelievably invasive, morally and legally wrong." Matthew Werkmeister said that when he signed his original contracts at 13, AI and vertical streaming platforms "didn't exist and was not a consideration," and that he has had no word on whether residuals will be paid. Guardian Australia understands residuals will be paid under the original agreements. Contracts written before anyone priced vertical video will decide who gets paid when old footage is resold in a new shape.
