Was parenting better in the 1970s compared to today? Do modern U.S. playgrounds inspire creativity and courage? Does overprotective parenting cause anxiety? My 7th-graders discussed these ideas and more during today’s Socratic seminar. @FISD_PearsonMS @FISDAdvAcad
We’ve reached the time of year when students can take over my role in grammar practice. (They say “slay” much more than I do while teaching.) @FISD_PearsonMS @FISDAdvAcad
Debate club meeting is happening in my classroom.
Student leader: Last week didn’t go so well, so this week is our redemption week. We can do better.
(I love that we get a fresh start every day!) @FISD_PearsonMS
Every morning a group of students comes to our classroom to hide nine tiny gnomes in new places. #HolidayCheer @FISD_PearsonMS

@MsDamm7 7th grade GT students should have no questions about their Mystery Short Stories checkpoints. @FISD_PearsonMS
By this time in the school year, 7th-graders are totally ready for a big group project and the collaboration and communication required. Today they’re beginning the brainstorming process for mystery short stories. Engagement is high. @FISD_PearsonMS @FISDAdvAcad
What happened to D.B. Cooper? Or the people aboard the Mary Celeste? How did those Easter Island statues get moved into place? Did the Alcatraz escapees survive? 7th-graders have theories! Their products are on display in the @FISD_PearsonMS library. @FISDAdvAcad

When you’re unsure of some grammar concepts, it helps to practice during tutorials. I’m proud of these resilient seventh-graders. ❤️ @FISD_PearsonMS
It’s the first meeting of the Pearson Cricket Club. These folks are passionate about their sport. And I’m learning a lot. @FISD_PearsonMS
We loved playing Clap, a version of Hot and Cold, in advisory. @FISD_PearsonMS #mondayfunday
7th-grader: Can I write a run-on sentence in my personal narrative to show that I was nervous?
Me: Absolutely!
(The 8th week of school is magical. They’re able to make connections and apply our learning with confidence.) @FISD_PearsonMS @FISDAdvAcad
We’re working on descriptive writing in 7th grade.
From a group today: His refrigerator was as empty as his soul.
(Mondays can be dramatic.) @FISD_PearsonMS
You never know where students will take you. In 4th period today we looked up the life cycle of a cricket as a lone cricket hopped around the classroom.
“He’s just vibing over here,” one student reported after our new friend was cornered.
My 7th-graders cheered every time we read a chapter from Ghost, and they were disappointed when we finished. They are big @JasonReynolds83 fans and were excited to create these one-pagers about the novel, exploring theme, character development and writing style. @FISD_PearsonMS
How do you become a better writer? Keep writing.
Students recently crafted personal mission statements (top photo). Today they offered peer feedback on our first big project (bottom photo).

My seventh-graders worked on a nano challenge, creating products that show their similarities and differences (and building collaboration and communication skills). @FISD_PearsonMS @FISDAdvAcad
