3 years ago, I took a leap of faith into professional acting. Earning 2 Taft-Hartleys along the way is a milestone I never expected but I am super grateful for. I’m incredibly thankful to everyone who has believed in me, trusted me with a role, you’ve all been part of this journey. Honoured to have been in the room for Africa & California: Capital, Climate, Community. Huge gratitude to Mayor Barbara Lee and LaNiece Jones for the opportunity, and thank you Echo for helping create space for such an important conversation. As a Nigerian, this conversation felt deeply personal because one of my biggest fears is that too many brilliant African students are forced to leave home not because we want to, but because a lack of infrastructure, investment, and opportunity makes it harder to build the futures we deserve within our own communities. I was especially moved by the reminder that Africa does not lack talent, ideas, or potential, it has people, institutions, markets, and communities ready to thrive. What is needed is deeper partnership, real investment, and collective action to build the systems that make opportunity possible. I left thinking about how we can come together across sectors and across borders to create the kind of change that allows the next generation of African leaders to stay, build, and lead at home with dignity.

This weekend, I get to live inside a dream I thought I had to let go of 4 years ago. Before acting, before the cameras, before this new chapter of my life, there was football. The game raised me in so many ways. It shaped my discipline, my hunger, my identity, and my understanding of what it means to chase something with your whole heart. This weekend, I’ll be playing the role of a professional football player in two #FIFAWorldCup2026 commercials, and it feels like Allah brought two parts of my life back together in the most beautiful way. For the people who knew me before I became an actor, you know football was never just a sport to me. It was my first love, my deepest passion, and one of the dreams I once had to surrender. Now, by the grace of Allah, I get to step back onto that field, not as the player I once imagined, but as the storyteller I was becoming all along. Grateful beyond words
