TD9 got serious pretty quick. Turned into a hurricane sooner than expected. Those sea surface temps! My api lost connection to the buoy data so things are a bit stale on my charts.

Tropical Depression 9 headed for the coastline, projected to become a hurricane.

Update: the Gulf system is now Invest 92L. The Hurricane Center says a tropical depression is likely within a day, and it's expected to head toward the northern Gulf Coast by the end of the week. If you're between Louisiana and the Florida Panhandle, this is the time to check your plan. The buoys called it first. Buoy 42055 in the Bay of Campeche dropped from 1013.0 to 1008.9 mb in 27 hours, with winds doubling to 8 m/s out of the east. That's trigger #2 from yesterday's card, which said to watch for a fall greater than 3 mb per day. 42002 and 42001 fell about 3 mb too, so the whole western Gulf is responding. More in the image.

Gulf is waking up. Natl Hurricane Center says a tropical depression is likely to form by midweek. It'll drift east for a few days, turn north by the weekend, too early to say where. Not a reason to panic, but a good reason to check your plan now while there's time. I'll be tracking it, model details in the image. #Gulf #tropics
