The Eastleigh building collapse has raised serious questions about construction approvals, with Architectural Association of Kenya Treasurer Yassin Munyanya demanding accountability over possible regulatory failures.
Munyanya questioned how the project was registered without architectural approvals, citing missing structural drawings and urging authorities to act on previous reports and hold those responsible accountable.
Munyanya: We want to ask the National Construction Authority (NCA) how a project was registered without architectural approvals. There are more questions than answers that we have, but we, as professionals, are here and more than willing to try and bring this mystery to an end once and for all.

Now when designing a structure, say you have 12 floors. You design from the top to the bottom. Why ? Because the bottom is the foundation and it carries the entire building.
So you do the roof loads then slab loads then transfer them to beams then to columns then to foundation at the bottom

IF YOU go to City Hall, some Engineers and Architects’ licenses are being auctioned in the open market - in the sunlight. The @DCI_Kenya should quickly investigate this matter and prosecute the owners because their professional boards won’t. We cannot give someone a licence then they proceed to endanger our lives with it. I have always said the key qualification for issuing any professional licence should be zero greed. If we need to procure a greedometer to measure this so be it. We have killed too many Kenyans. #Buildingcollapse

Collapsing buildings has always been an enforcement issue!
The City Council back then & the current County Gov are unable to enforce building regulations that they have enacted!
Ironically, the country has officers who will pounce on you for small infractions like cutting tree!
On 13th May 1996, Sunbeam Building canopy, balcony and part of the wall along Moi Avenue, Nairobi collapsed. It was a major urban safety disaster that killed people sheltering beneath the structure from the rain. The subsequent Parliamentary investigation and the Commission of Inquiry into building laws examined wider regulatory failures. Its findings highlighted the failure of Nairobi City Council to act.
What the historical records from 1990 tells us? The most important engineering and governance lessons from these incidents concern:

-Building inspection and enforcement:
-Rainfall and ground conditions:
