Two summers ago, I had an idea. Today, it’s going live.
I am proud to announce @Vertical76ers, a comprehensive model to cover the Philadelphia 76ers to serve you: the reader, the listener, the viewer. Not the algorithm.
Led by me, in partnership with @howardmegdal and @TheIXSports, we will be attacking the massive limitations to many of today’s journalism business models. Good work and the relationship between consumers and the information you want to know is always the priority. We are here to build on what elite sports journalists are doing in Philadelphia, and always have—not just for one of the most exciting seasons in Sixers history, but sustainably.
We will be your home for weekly podcasts, in partnership with Blue Wire. We will provide consistent analysis and context to this historic 2026-27 season through video reports on our social channels.
Wrote about what I saw from LeBron at center, some missed opportunities in the fourth quarter, and how the Pistons stayed physical with Tyrese Maxey.
Takeaways from the Sixers' first loss of the season @Vertical76ers:

The Sixers are going to record their first loss of the season. Uninspiring stuff from LeBron. Jaylen Brown was very helter skelter. Philly had plenty of chances in the fourth quarter and just settled for some really bad shots. They're 3-1 and will now have off til Wednesday.
I would imagine the Sixers won't look back too fondly on their shot selection in this fourth quarter.
Can't tell what happened but the Sixers need a timeout to get KCP off the court. He's going right to the locker room and was doubled over in pain.
Sixers (LeBron) close the half out with a run to get this game to 12. But, have never seen LeBron play like that. Tough ask to be center in this matchup but very deferential.
Sixers only outrebounded by 4 in the first half, but shooting 38% from the field and missed 6 FT.
Sixers trail by 12 after the first quarter. Not bad considering the bruising they put on the rim. If they can find a way to put the ball in the basket, they may be ok.
VJ Edgecombe remains QUESTIONABLE as of pregame, per the Sixers.
Nick Nurse says Edgecombe took a knee in last night's game and is very sore today.

Do the Sixers need to be good rebounders to win a championship?
History says otherwise.
