Only 28 players are on opening-night rosters with the same team they played for during the 2020-21 season (including Damian Lillard). 13 teams have no players remaining from their 2020-21 rosters, while the Nuggets lead the league with four players still on the team.

The 2026-27 season starts today! I’m sure players will set plenty of new records, and we’ll often hear, “For the first time in @NBA history…” But what does that actually mean? Let’s put it into numbers. NBA history (80 seasons): 68,523 regular-season games, and 4,606 playoff games The shot-clock era: 65,719 games / 4,419 playoff games Since the NBA-ABA merger: 55,554 games / 3,723 playoff games The 3-point era: 52,848 games / 3,488 playoff games The Play-by-Play era: 35,546 games / 2,440 playoff games Additionally, there have been 37 Play-In games and three NBA Cup Finals. So, throughout league history, there have been 73,169 games played! In total, 5,105 players have appeared in at least one game and 362 head coaches have been at the helm for at least one game. Here is my super bold prediction for the season: ...for the first time in NBA history... a rookie will score 60 points in a single game (I think Darius Acuff Jr. will do it !!!). Your turn now! Share who will do something "for the first time in NBA history..." during the 2026-27 season. Comment below before the season starts! A record 71 players on opening-night rosters have won an @NBA championship. That’s one more than the previous high of 70 players in 2025-26 and three more than the 68 players in 2024-25. The number could still go up, as several NBA champions remain without a team, including Pat Connaughton, Kevin Love, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Jeremy Sochan, and Bruce Brown.

Despite being drafted in the same year, Anthony Edwards has played nearly 8,000 more minutes than LaMelo Ball. That's 7,992 to be exact (regular season plus playoffs), the equivalent of roughly 230 extra games at a starter's workload.
