Around 120 Braddock residents attended the Allegheny County Health Department public meeting on the proposed hot strip mill at Nippon/U.S. Steel’s Edgar Thomson Works last night. Many asked thoughtful questions about what more pollution would mean for their neighborhood, including a projected 43% increase in PM2.5 in the heart of Braddock. The biggest question in the room: how can we ask an overburdened community to take on even more pollution?

A huge plume of smoke rose from Nippon/U.S. Steel’s Edgar Thomson Works in Braddock yesterday. We don’t know what happened, but does it look like an explosion? 👀 Ask yourself: Does Nippon/U.S. Steel deserve an air permit for a new hot strip mill?

Kids in Braddock shouldn't have to breathe 40% more of the tiny particles that harm their growing bodies (PM2.5). That's what a proposed hot strip mill at Nippon / U.S. Steel's Edgar Thomson Works would bring. Protect the children. Clean the air.
