The 10th National Conference on Communications retweeted
Yesterday, I joined leaders from industry, academia & government at the 10th National Communication Conference to discuss an important question: How do we move Uganda from connectivity to commerce?
Connectivity is the foundation, but connecting people is not enough. We must also address the barriers to meaningful participation; affordable smartphones & data, digital skills and relevant digital services. [1/2]

Today marks a key milestone in our collective digital journey as we officially opened the 10th National Conference on Communications (NCC 2026) at Makerere University's College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT).
I expressed our sincere appreciation to the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, our longstanding partners at Makerere University, and the vibrant community comprising researchers, industry leaders, and young innovators.
This year’s theme, "Accelerating Market-Driven Research and Innovation for Uganda's Development," is a call to action. Research cannot stop at generating knowledge; it must translate into practical, market-driven solutions that improve livelihoods, address local challenges, and drive socio-economic growth.
To achieve this, we are fostering innovation across the spectrum, nurturing young minds through our Secondary School ICT Club Competition, showcasing homegrown solutions at the conference exhibitions, and connecting research with industrial development, as demonstrated by our recent visit to Kiira Motors.
As the sector regulator, the Uganda Communications Commission @UCC_Official remains committed to fostering a robust environment for artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, telecommunications, and digital infrastructure.
By strengthening collaboration among academia, government, and the private sector, we build our national capacity to develop and adapt solutions that work for Uganda. #NCC2026
