Absolutely! It was one of the cheapest pints so used to fit my budget nicely in my younger days. 😆 Shared this video a little while ago but there’s some of the old McEwans adverts along with some others here: youtu.be/CAaQpoBjFXg

That very advert is on this video along with a few others with local links - including some for McEwans Best Scotch: youtu.be/CAaQpoBjFXg

A reference to the Dizzy egg character on the old C64 perhaps? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Was having a little wander around North Shields yesterday and noticed some work happening at the Maggie Bank. Been closed a few years now but was always a good venue for live music. Hope it comes back similar, what with the big music and culture wave happening in North Shields.

The old Newcastle heritage pub crawl. There’s some heavy lifting going on with the term heritage I think, some aren’t open anymore either. What would you add or remove from this list in 2026? Whats your go to pub crawl in town?

I’m relying on you X, the guesses on Facebook and Instagram have been way off the mark so far. I thought it was pretty easy but I’ve been frequenting this place for years. It used to be a little rougher than it is now. A well known city centre pub and not some obscurity.

@TyneSnapper you don’t have a map of the route of the old City Trail do you? Is this the one that used to be denoted on the pavements around town by the castles on the metal roundels?

Shields Road, Byker - The Knightsbridge of the North Fantastic artwork by Chris Donald and a beautiful illustration of the rather refined outside seating experience you can expect at the Raby.

Shephards of Gateshead. “Shephards of Gateshead, the biggest and the best store…” Founded 1908 by Emerson Shephard. Originally started as a shoe shop in 1908, rebuilt after a 1946 fire and the main store re-opened in 1949. They finally closed their doors on 26th July 1980.

North East Mayor @KiMcGuinness wrote to Cadeler over the Tyne plastic nurdle spill. They’ve confirmed specialist clean-up teams are now on the job and admitted they need to move faster. Local volunteers have been out in force in the meantime to help where they can.

An update on developments around City Road and Milk Market. The scaffolding and signage is up at Keelmen’s Hospital ready for much needed redevelopment and Stereo / Barley Mow / Fog & Firkin is now fully demolished. Older photo from 1982 for comparison.

A throwback to the mid-90s and Ice FM in Newcastle. Would you say it was the peak era of the North East dance and club scene?

The Palace of Arts, now Wylam Brewery. This was also home to the Museum of Science and Industry and later the Military Vehicle Museum. Freddy Shepherd bought it in 2012 before it became Wylam Brewery to save the building and to house his horse drawn carriage and car collection.
