As always, I had a great time at this year’s North Carolina State Fair! The fair is a wonderful opportunity to showcase North Carolina’s top-producing industry and recognize the folks who grow our food, fiber, and crops. And in the face of rising costs, supporting our farmers has never been more important. It’s also a good chance to eat some incredible burnt ends!

.@UNCWilmington can simulate cyberattacks on ships and train students to respond to them. That’s what Jobs of the Future is all about: building the workforce we need for growing fields like cybersecurity while continuing to innovate in the industries that have long been strengths for our state.

North Carolina Lt. Governor Rachel Hunt made the next stop on her Future-Ready Community College Tour, visiting Halifax CC's Advanced Manufacturing program, Dental Hygiene and Assistance programs, and on-campus Head Start pre-school. “Between the emergence of AI and rising costs, it’s clear that the labor market is facing a lot of uncertainty. But I feel confident that community colleges like HCC can help us weather whatever comes next. They provide real value to their students and help them prepare for Future-Ready jobs that will always be in-demand.” - Lt. Governor Hunt rrspin.com/hcc/29504-hunt-vi… @NCLtGovernor

Last Friday was Future Farmers of America Day at the North Carolina State Fair. @NCFFA plays a critical role in the development of agricultural leaders in our state. As our hard-working agricultural communities face increasing economic uncertainty, their work couldn’t be more important. Supporting our students in FFA means not only supporting the farmers who grow our food and fiber and make events like the State Fair possible, but also ensuring future generations can innovate in North Carolina’s top industry

Halifax Community College is a really impressive institution. Between the emergence of AI and rising costs, it’s clear that the labor market is facing a lot of uncertainty. But I feel confident that community colleges like HCC can help us weather whatever comes next. They provide real value to their students and help them prepare for Future-Ready jobs that will always be in-demand. It was great to tour HCC's Advanced Manufacturing program, Dental Hygiene and Assistance programs, and on-campus Head Start pre-school.

North Carolina is incredibly well positioned to lead in advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, aerospace and defense, cybersecurity, and more. But being ready for the future is not just about creating new technology. It is also about protecting it. I was thrilled to speak at the Southeast Defense Innovation Center's Safeguarding America's Research conference last week and talk about how we protect the intellectual property and research that make those industries possible.

Protecting North Carolinians and their personal information is essential as online threats and scams become more sophisticated. October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of staying vigilant and safe online. North Carolina has secured $85 million for cybersecurity investments from the General Assembly, has developed a five-year strategy to protect state systems and residents’ data, and has worked to strengthen our cybersecurity workforce.

I was proud to launch my new Jobs of the Future initiative at UNCW's Center for Cyber Defense Education. North Carolina has always been at its best when we prepare our people for what’s next. That means building the workforce we need for growing fields like maritime cybersecurity while continuing to innovate in the industries that have long been strengths for our state.

Beaufort County Community College is a real jewel. Its top-notch faculty are deeply committed to making sure students are prepared for lifelong success. The hands-on learning opportunities available here, like their boat manufacturing facility, electrical engineering program, and K9 training rubble pile, are exceptional. That’s what being Future-Ready looks like.

My Future-Ready Community College Tour visit to Pamlico Community College was truly special. I often say that some of the best work that’s happening in our state is happening in our community colleges. Pamlico Community College exemplifies that. President Zac Schnell and his team are doing incredible, life changing work in this community.

I’ve seen first-hand how families and farmers across North Carolina are hurting, and not just during election season. Back home in Wilson and all over the state, for many the strain of high costs has already become routine. Families have been making impossible choices between groceries, medical bills, and putting gas in their tank, and our farmers are facing another year of financial uncertainty during harvest season. The temporary gas tax holiday passed today can help, but we need action from Washington because the war in Iran and these chaotic tariffs are what’s driving prices.
