Privileged. That is how our President and CEO, James Schmeling, describes marking seven years with the NDU Foundation.
His reflection returns to one idea: the relationships formed at NDU matter. Private sector fellows, international fellows, and students from the services and interagency learn side by side, and the trust they build strengthens national security and the partnerships behind it long after graduation.
That is the work the Foundation exists to sustain.
When international alumni asked why American alumni were missing from the room, the Foundation stepped in, starting with the support of a single board member. From Sydney to Seoul, our supporters have kept that alumni network learning together.
In Seoul, an international alumnus presented recognition for that support, and James accepted it on behalf of every supporter, because the credit belongs to them. Every relationship built and every alumnus reconnected is an investment in the leaders who defend this nation and its partners.

National Intelligence College’s Historic Milestone – A New Chapter in How America Educates its Intelligence Leaders.
From our colleagues at NDU and the National Intelligence College, NIC held its inaugural convocation at ICC-B -C on August 24, officially welcoming its first academic class since joining NDU as the University's sixth college. NDU President VADM Peter Garvin addressed the audience which included NIC students, faculty, staff, and members of the Intelligence Community and emphasized that: "Integrating the National Intelligence College into this University is not just an administrative shift. It is a strategic necessity."
Deputy Under Secretary of War for Intelligence and Security Justin Overbaugh delivered the keynote, underscoring why intelligence integration across the Intelligence Enterprise matters now more than ever. He underscored for the students that "The relationships you forge in these hallways will be the very lifelines you call upon five, ten, or fifteen years from now when the nation faces its darkest hours."
The Foundation is excited by this newest step in generating strategic warfighting advantage for the Nation. A new college, a new class, and a mission that has never been more relevant.
