How do you measure the impact of SEL? We measure it in stronger relationships, empowered educators, and student voices being heard.
NEB has provided 2,730 hours of SEL training to Rhode Island educators and leaders since January 2025, with a 96% completion rate and 98% of completers recommending the course to a colleague.
That’s how you measure a year of learning, growth, and impact.
Here’s to building stronger, more connected school communities!
Our students have incredible ideas. And while we strive to create spaces where they can be expressive, honest, and inquisitive, we have to ask ourselves: Are we creating those spaces for ALL students, or just the ones who feel comfortable speaking up?
Chalk Talk is a simple yet powerful strategy that gives every student a voice. By sharing ideas in writing, students can reflect, respond to one another, and build on different perspectives without the pressure of speaking in front of the group.
Because participation shouldn’t be limited to the loudest voices in the room. Every student idea deserves to be heard, or in this case, SEEN!
This study was based on Harvard Project Zero’s Chalk Talk thinking routine. It can be found here: buff.ly/XILcWrU

Looking for a quick way to get students talking, thinking, and learning? Try Turn and Talk!
This simple strategy works from Kindergarten through Grade 12 and gives every student an opportunity to process ideas and practice communicating with a partner. Make it routine by incorporating Turn and Talk into your lessons regularly.
Remember: Whoever is doing the talking is doing the learning.

Latina author highlight: We’re kicking off October by getting to know one another and building relationships! Alma and How She Got Her Name by Juana Martinez-Neal is a wonderful book about a girl discovering her family heritage through her name. Sharing diverse books like this helps expand our students' worldviews and celebrates the rich cultures that make up our community.

“The strength of the Constitution lies entirely in the determination of each citizen to defend it. Only if every single citizen feels duty bound to do his share in this defense are the constitutional rights secure.”
-Albert Einstein
And with that, NEB wanted to offer a special #TeacherTuesday, where you can highlight the importance of the constitution in class.

What do YOU think?”
Great conversations don’t just happen, they’re taught! Give students exactly WHAT they need to ask questions, share ideas, build on each other’s thinking, and respectfully disagree.
