Toby is the first loco complete-ish. Hornby Playtrains RC gear, no speaker due to limitations, modified Bachmann chassis, new lamp soon, area around the USB-C port to be repainted along with most of the body. Triang buffers used as I had them spare, Henry and Percy will be next…
Nice to see Tomix pulling a Hornby this year with a new set. Percy chassis and repainted rolling stock, at least they now have metal wheels.
I haven’t followed the show for years and only got back into it through watching it with my son but…
Didn’t Wilbert write the original stories to both entertain the children and the parents reading them? Some modern shows still do this but this Thomas has been dumbed down

I’ve given up on the motorised coach idea and instead all three are going to be standalone PlayTrains RC locomotives. Percy has a chassis to attach, Thomas needs a custom one and Toby needs to have some work done to his body. Diesel may be a future addition, can’t wait to start!
I guess after how the Meccano Percy went down, Triang didn’t want to go through with a Thomas set but…
They did make tooling and reuse it as part of their Pennybrix range. Crazy coincidence but that outline and shape is 100% Thomas. Imagine what could have been produced.

The old Brio face is 99.99% perfect for this Thomas, much better than the old Hornby face.

This is my original Thomas & Annie from when I was younger, now updated with a much modified Playtrains loco chassis in the coach. I’d say it works well enough and it’s a shame you can’t edit the sound files with ease.

One thing to note is that there are two (maybe more?) variants, one has flanged wheels and the other does not. It’s different to both the 0-4-0 and 0-6-0 clockwork versions in that it’s a push along model, Annie is the motorised item in the set.

It’s an undercoat but I’m mostly happy so far, nice to not use 3D printing but reuse a broken Tomy body to make a Trackmaster one. More updates soon if it all goes well 🤞
Few small improvements on the 2025 Trackmaster Thomas, shame this isn’t going to grow as a range. Got plans for these but have no idea if they’ll happen, these larger locomotives have potential for other things 🤔
Why do we need to change the track system again? It just looks like the discontinued Mighty Express track now
