A very smart Great Grey Shrike caught in the nets around T1 this evening. Otherwise the day has seen over 200 birds ringed with the majority being Blackbirds and Redwings but a bumper catch of Redpolls including thirteen at the obs kept the ringers busy!

A Finnish control Redpoll in the nets this morning seemed like a good omen for the rest of the day 🇫🇮 Unfortunately this was about as good as it got. Fingers crossed for the next few days 🤞@NRonBirdObs

Very cool to watch this Short-eared Owl come in off the sea at the north end of the island today, pitching in on the first bit of land it came to @NRonBirdObs 🌊

Pleased to find my first Shore Lark @NRonBirdObs last week, but it's fair to say it showed much better today as it happily fed around Bewan Loch

Finding a Two-barred Greenish Warbler wasn't on my bingo card for today! Absolutely buzzing to find this before we eventually trapped and ringed the bird in the evening! A day steeped in history @NRonBirdObs, so great to add another bird to the NRBO list

This Buff-bellied Pipit was a nice surprise to find at Poor Man's Corner yesterday @NRonBirdObs. After giving everyone the run around yesterday, it seemed more settled feeding on the rocks this afternoon 🇺🇸

Super pleased to find this Baird's Sandpiper on this Links this morning @NRonBirdObs. Its been a bit of a wader fest recently with up to four Buff-breasted Sandpiper, White-rumped Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Long-billed Dowitcher, and at least two American Golden Plover.

A rather showy Grey Phalarope at Trolla this afternoon improved an otherwise quiet census today @NRonBirdObs

Did you twitch the Yellow-browed Bunting on 22/9/1992 on North Ronaldsay? If so we wonder if anyone has an image of the bird? If you have an image and would be willing to share it with us please email to: [email protected]

Some more of the Blue-cheeked Bee-eater from this morning in the drizzle, looking distinctly out of place sat by the road! Into its ninth day now with nearly 40 people having successfully twitched @NRonBirdObs

Another day in the life of the Blue-cheeked Bee-eater on North Ronaldsay. It’s spent most of today being a elusive but it seems to have found Ancum Willows now, watched until 18:25 catching bees at alarming rate, if you’re a local bee!

Blue-cheeked Bee-eater still present 12:00. Gave me the run around this morning before eventually settling on the fence directly outside the open car window! @NRonBirdObs

Blue-cheeked Bee-eater still present at 18:00. Bird has spent all day in Holland, probably due to poor weather conditions. If you wish to twitch the bird and its still in Holland please get in touch with the obs first, its a private garden and the owners are in residence.

The Blue-cheeked Bee-eater showed like an absolute dream today for the small crowd of obs staff and islanders. After being away when it first showed up in Orkney, to see it @NRonBirdObs was once in a lifetime stuff.
