Today we honour Viola Desmond, a Nova Scotian woman who took a stand against racial segregation in 1946, sparking change for equality in Canada. Let’s keep her legacy alive by promoting justice in our communities. #ViolaDesmondDay #AntiRacism #Equality
Today is Viola Desmond Day in Nova Scotia. On this day in 1946, Viola Desmond, an African Nova Scotian entrepreneur and mentor, was arrested for daring to violate racial segregation in a New Glasgow theatre, marking a watershed moment for civil rights in Canada.
Included in the Viola Desmond Collection, a 1953 calendar from Viola's beauty salon shared with a barber shop run by her husband Jack (NSM Cultural History Collection 2017.3.2)

Today I facilitated an observation drawing event for youth in the exhibit gallery of the @MNH_Naturalists - one hour of drawing, lots of fun and learning. Everyone completed four drawings on a folded sheet of 11x17 card stock, resulting in a hand drawn poster.
