Police Officer Didarul Islam represented the very best of our department.
He was protecting New Yorkers from danger when his life was tragically cut short today.
We join in prayer during this time of incomprehensible pain. We will forever honor his legacy.

It was a pleasure to visit the @NYPD46Pct, @nypd43pct, @Nypdspecialops ESU Truck 3, and @nypdmts this afternoon to bring cookies and personally thank all the women and men working Christmas Eve.
I am truly appreciative of the dedication and sacrifices our members make for our department and city, especially during this holiday season when many officers are away from their families, protecting all New Yorkers.

On Monday evening, officers from the @NYPDSpecialops Emergency Service Unit responded to reports of a male threatening to jump from a window 20 stories above. Working alongside @NYPDMTS, your ESU officers acted quickly to locate the male who was sitting on the windowsill, barely holding on. Nearly 50 years ago, Lt. Henry Schmiemann was shot and killed while serving his community. In honor of this fallen hero, a street was renamed after him. His legacy continues to live on through his grandson, Officer Henry Schmiemann of @NYPDMTS, who was recently presented with his grandfather’s police officer shield number.

In 2021, @POTUS declared Juneteenth a federal holiday to honor the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. It's a day to celebrate freedom and to honor the heroes, past and present, who continue to strive for equality for all. Happy Juneteenth!
