Sam Ruthe running 3:48.88 and breaking the NZ Mile Record at 16 years old is nuts!! Amazing, jaw-dropping, awesome, but nuts!!!
I’ve seen a lot of wild races at the Boston University track. 16-year-old Sam Ruthe running an outright New Zealand record of 3:48.88 is near the very top.
The youngest human being ever to break 3:50 in the mile.

16yr old Sam Ruthe just completed the most amazing Jnr mid-distance double that I've heard of. Solo 3:38.6 1500m followed by a solo 1:46.8 800m at NZ schools champs!
15 year old Sam Ruthe takes out his first NZ Senior title running a 7:56 3000m chalking up another age-group World-Best time - almost unbelievable!!!

🗣️“I just had to try and forget about that, they’re just my competitors at the end of the day.”
@FriarsXcTrack’s Kimberley May didn’t let the pressure of racing against Olympians get to her today, as she came through 3000m in 8:44.73 at the BU Terrier Classic. She’s now the 7th-fastest woman in NCAA history.
It’s a good thing she can handle herself in pro fields, because she’ll have another one coming up next weekend at the Millrose Games🤩
