ALT The letter subject is: Propose rent caps in Austin and the body is: Austin rent is out of control. We have no caps or limits to how much landlords can increase rent which leads to many low to medium earners having no choice but to move out of the city. As someone who has worked in Big Tech for 15 years, we need to be aware how it’s changing the landscape of this city. I made the switch to become a helper, as a therapist, and now, I’m not sure I can stay in Austin giving the rising costs and the lack of concern from city officials. If we want Austin to stay weird… and accessible, you have to look at ways to make it affordable. Otherwise, we are just another Silicon Valley, and we will see health care providers, educators, helpers, artists and service workers continue to leave. Please advocate for rent caps and rent control initiatives ASAP.
