El IMV no es una política de inserción laboral. Para eso hay otras herramientas. Su objetivo debe ser que no haya nadie que no tenga una vida digna, especialmente ningún niño.
Que no haya personas en situación de necesidad es un bien público que después disfrutamos todos.

Reacting to the comments on my centibillionaires tweet.
“The state is evil. Taxes are theft. Revenues are wasted. I am a communist (not to mention that I am french)” I get the message.😟
But I am still struck at the intensity of feelings (insults?). Really? That bad? Nothing good to say about the state? Fine that centibillionaires pay proportionally less than some of you?
The terrain has too many mines (should probably replace “mines” by “drones”) for a discussion to be productive. But I cannot resist making a few points.
If the firm has no liquidity, the tax could still be paid by giving the state non-voting shares. If the firm does well, the government will benefit. If it does poorly, so will the government.
Sounds communist to you? This is exactly what the profit tax does in every country in the world: the state gets a lot when times are good, nothing when times are bad. The state is already a passive investor.
Yes, the funds are not idle, and much is invested in new projects (I knew that, did not need to be told). But if the projects make economic sense, which I assume most do, then the wealth tax should have little effect on investment. The wealth tax does not affect future returns. If they need more funds, Musk and all should have little trouble finding investors.
Happy to have a polite discussion.

In the wake of unprecedented cuts in last year's Republican reconciliation law, SNAP participation & spending have been falling — and the decline is much deeper than the Congressional Budget Office initially projected.

Like every other econ reporter, I've spent much of the past couple years trying to understand what A.I. will mean for the economy and for workers. But it's been frustratingly hard to reach any firm conclusions, because so much is uncertain -- how the technology will evolve, how quickly it will be adopted, how policymakers will respond.

This Hoover Institution study, which has fueled the deluge of ads (more than $200 million spent by billionaires so far) to defeat the California billionaire tax, is spectacularly misleading.
Let me explain its crucial flaw. 🧵
California's Billionaire Tax Act would collect roughly $30 billion. Accounting for lost income taxes from departures, the mean Net Present Value is negative $39 billion, from Benjamin Jaros and Joshua Rauh nber.org/papers/w35899
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Zucman argues that the tax will raise his projected revenue because billionaires who leave CA after 1/1/26 will be taxed anyway.
At least $542B of net worth (Page, Brin, Thiel) departed the state by 12/31/25.
The entire thread is a misleading denial of this fact.

1/4 Today’s French debt ratio does not prove Europe needed more austerity in the 2010s. We do not observe the counterfactual. Tighter fiscal policy could have meant weaker output, higher unemployment, and possibly an even worse debt trajectory.
No, imo, it does not make sense to argue that Krugman's fiscal advice was right for France and the Eurozone in the 2010s. Those large deficits in the 2010s set the stage for today's looming fiscal crisis. The high debt/gdp ratio today is the footprint of all those large deficits, in spite of the French government's low funding costs at the zero lower bound in the 2010s.
Those large deficits certainly did not spur enough growth for France to simply grow out of the high debt/gdp ratio, contrary to what was advertised.
Economists who were attacking "Eurozone austerity" in the 2010s should have realized that once the ECB stopped buying government bonds on a massive scale, the debt would be marked-to-market and bond yields might spike. That's exactly what's happening. All of the extra fiscal capacity is gone. And there is little spending room left for the core functions of the state (defense, education), which is crowded out by the growing interest expense and transfer payments (including pensions).
Below I plot the net supply of French government bonds to be absorbed by the market (defined as net issuance minus Eurosystem/ECB purchases). Those are the bars. Look at the red bars. Real yields were low when the ECB was buying more than issuance.
In any case, the fiscal lesson is that yields in bond markets jump, but the debt/gdp ratio is a slow-moving variable.

Thiel had his Roth IRA buy @PayPal shares for a tiny fraction of a penny each: 1.7 million shares for just… $1,700. That's $0.001 per share.
The price was low enough for him to place 1.7 million shares in his Roth IRA while staying below the $2,000 Roth IRA maximum contribution limit.

Very interesting post from Paul Goldsmith-Pinkham on the rise of AI writing in economics. He got a large token budget from Pangram to analyse a large number of preprints.
One of the interesting results of his analysis, which aligns with my experience, is that AI writing is harder for humans to read. It’s not just the overused AI expressions. AI outputs are written in very good English but they are not optimised for human psychology, including our limited attention and memory spans.

My thoughts on equitable AI economy and international tax reform.
If AI-driven profits are subject to the same outdated, asymmetric global tax architecture that has allowed Big Tech to be undertaxed, resistance to AI will harden and we'll all miss out on its potential benefits.

Ms. Rachel on the ICE Dilley detention center: “It’s heartbreaking talking to the kids and their families. They’re talking about water they can’t even drink that makes them sick. There’s been worms in the food. The food’s rotten sometimes. What really frightens me is the dangerous, inadequate medical care. These are basic human rights for children and we can all agree not to harm and abuse children. I’m kind of in shock about what I’m hearing and I don’t think people really know what’s going on inside of Dilley”
