The new Labour Mayor of Greater Manchester wants you to prove where you live before you’re allowed to drop your rubbish at the tip. Papers, please? 👮‍♂️

Slavery was an evil in which people from every continent and region participated. We should be honest about the whole history, not select the parts that are politically convenient today, especially given Britain's leading role in ending the transatlantic slave trade. If Caribbean countries are asking Britain for a formal apology for Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, will they also be asking the same of the descendants of African kingdoms, rulers and merchants who captured, sold and profited from the trade? On demands for reparations, whether through cash or debt relief, we have been down this track before. Twenty-five years ago, Jubilee 2000, Drop the Debt and Make Poverty History argued that cancelling the debts of poorer countries would give them a fresh start. More than $100 billion of debt was eventually written off, but many of those countries have since built up even bigger debts. Labour are already spending too much on Britain's welfare state, now is not the time for Andy Burnham to be providing global welfare. There is no reason British taxpayers today should be held financially responsible for things that happened generations before any of us were born. And I have even less patience for political elites in commonwealth countries who don’t know how to make their own citizens prosperous now looking for another opportunity to blame Britain. As Prime Minister, Andy Burnham should be Britain’s greatest defender. Instead, he is writing articles saying we need to confront our history (as if we haven't done enough of that) and considering another formal historical apology. Tony Blair already expressed Britain’s deep sorrow and regret for our role in the slave trade nearly twenty years ago. There is no need to do so again. This is all another navel-gazing distraction. The Commonwealth should be looking forward, not endlessly backwards. That means economic partnerships to make us all richer and deeper military and security cooperation against common threats. If every Commonwealth summit becomes an exercise in presenting Britain with demands for cash then we need to start asking if it is worth the effort.

We need to restore pride in community and country through self-responsibility. Only then can we truly get a grip on many of the societal problems we face as a town and as a nation.

Cliveden House burnt down in 1849. The architect behind Parliament rebuilt it in two years. Now, Parliament has spent over a decade just planning its own repairs. What happened to the country that built things? 👇

Bolton with a shockingly high benefits bill. We spend so much time in council meetings talking about town centre regeneration but unless we address the underlying issues and strengthen human capital, we’ll get nowhere. This benefits bill must serve as a wake-up call.

Andy Burnham has bottled it. He is running scared of the Greens, and putting votes in Holborn and St Pancras ahead of North Sea jobs and Britain’s energy security.

Yusuf's performative outrage is fooling no one. Nigel Farage himself called these protesters ‘disgusting’. The truth is he’s arguing with his own leader, using me as cover as he tries to outflank Farage. This is a Reform power struggle, not a serious argument about Britain’s borders. While Reform are mired in scandal and turning on each other, the Conservatives are putting Andy Burnham under pressure over what he's doing on the economy, the cost of living, welfare and national security. We’re also setting out how we will fund defence properly, cut taxes, take back our streets, stop the boats and restore control. Reform can spend its time fighting over who gets to lead Reform. I’m only interested in Getting Britain Working again.
How dare you call them “thugs” @KemiBadenoch? Badenoch and the Tory party threw open our borders and let in 130,000 invaders by boat. She and her party forced these men onto working class communities. British working class women and girls were raped and murdered. Now she calls the people whose lives are being turned upside down “thugs”? The Tories sneer at voters from their ivory tower. This is why the Tory Party must be destroyed.

Thousands won’t have their burgundy bins collected today or tomorrow in Bolton. Labour’s failing services need scrutiny. We won a vote forcing Cabinet Members to answer opposition questions. Now Labour must explain bin failures, staff sickness and rising taxes.

A little rain can’t dampen the fun at this year’s Bolton Food & Drink Festival! Great food, live acts and I even spotted a sneak peek of the upcoming Bolton Edition of Monopoly! What’s been your favourite stall, and which Bolton landmarks should make the board?

If you think Reform UK has been drowning in Community Notes lately, you can be forgiven. It has. I examined 32,032 X posts from all major political parties since Jan 1 2026 - 107 senior political figures and official accounts. Reform produced 28% of the posts and attracted 68% of the notes. The link to the full data set is in the last post in this thread. Meanwhile, here's a whistle-stop tour around key stats and findings.

The panic that is setting in at the top of Reform’s leadership is becoming clearer by the day. From a party who a few weeks ago said language needs to be toned down, this from Zia is tone deaf. Perhaps this is the reason why he’s not been selected for a by-election.
Incredible that this moron was Defence Secretary. Our policy today is in direct response to your government’s failures. If their home countries won’t take back, their citizens that are languishing in our jails, we are renting spaces in countries like El Salvador to put them. They will serve their full jail terms there, and will be banned from ever coming back to Britain. They may well include some of the thousands of Afghans you imported, including those who had not been vetted properly and including Taliban fighters (!). You know, the ones you took a super injunction out to keep secret from the British people? That’s why I call you a traitor to Britain. You fit the dictionary definition @BenWallace70

The Conservative group I lead on Bolton Council will always follow the law and protect women and girls. We forced a vote for an immediate review of council policies to reflect new EHRC guidance. Too many socialist councils are trying to dodge the Supreme Court ruling. We won’t.

Pavements looking great on Grange Park Road. A big area but lots of residents now set to have safer journeys on their walks. We’re pushing for more money to come to fix our local roads and pavements but if you know of any others that need doing, comment below. 👇
