Welcome to our new-look work packages! We have refocused for the next stage of the Programme Grant and can't wait to make further advances in these areas.
And now we start looking forward! Our Q13 meeting was a hybrid affair with interesting updates from all institutions as well as some delicious cakes! Big push on getting our data out there now 👀
And who could forget the Royal Society #summerscience this year! We presented Engineering Atom by Atom. See our little video to catch up on what went on 📽️

Another highlight of the year was our participation in the organization of ICANS30. With 150+ people attending and 90+ talks, there were some interesting discussions. We are so thankful to our NAME volunteers for helping before, during, and after the event to make it a success.
Another great outreach weekend supporting @PSI_UoM at the @royalsociety summer tour at @jodrellbank - talking about all things light and waves from single photon emitters to how lithography works, we had a great time discussing our passion for science!
And before you know it, we say goodbye to ICANS30 until the next conference to bring us and our ideas
together. Its been great couple of days with so many amazing talks and we look forward to the future events.
Of course the most important part of any conference is the networking and collaborations that can come from brining us all together. Great to see so many networking at the ICANS30 event dinner held
at the stunning Living Worlds Gallery @McrMuseum
We are underway with the Mott Lecture by Pere Roca i Cabarrocas, talking about using the full potential of plasma processes for the deposition of thin film semiconductors. Everyone turning up bright and early for the first day!
Welcome to ICANS30 from @NameProgramme. We are excited to have been involved in the organising and delivering of this conference - stay tuned for highlights from some great speakers and posters through the week!
The VR headsets were really a hit with both young and old alike...... Including @UKRI_News!
Our favourite quotes included
"One just went through my head"
"I'm being implanted"
"Weeeeeeeeeeee"
If you missed out you can always watch our video here 📷youtu.be/jhw8vwhhoIs?si=1Eyq…
We were excited to film at the @royalsociety #SummerScience Exhibition last week 🎥
It was great to meet and speak to UKRI-funded researchers about how their work is helping to improve our lives.
And we are done! What an amazing time! Here's our @royalsociety #summerscience in numbers
18000 LEDS 💡
29 volunteers 🧍
Over 10,000 visitors 👨👨👦👦
4 AFM tips 🔬
315 AFM scans 📊
300 packs of our card game 🃏
1 potato masher 🥔
And smiles all round 😁
This was the queue for the VR yesterday - and this wasn't it at its longest! FINAL day of royal society #summerscience. If you can't make it (or just don't fancy the queue) remember you can find information and the VR video on our website name-pg.uk/atomic_scale_engi…
It's been about 3 people deep all day- such a crowd! We have had so many interactions already, and so many people wanting to know more about quantum. Find out more with our little video 📷 youtu.be/SU9G9qw21pk?si=rwiZ…
Replying to @NameProgramme @NanosurfAFM
And @RoyceInstitute for funding our AFM, it's already been in papers and now it's been on Tictok! It's an integral part of characterizing the novel science we do and we are excited we have been able to share it with so many people!
Getting an AFM 210miles from the lab to the summer exhibit was made simpler by the guidance of @NanosurfAFM, their CoreAFM really is portable (even if I worried non stop that I'd break it!) and they are one of the most helpful suppliers I've ever delt with THANK YOU!
The VR has been such a hit with young and old, including a particular visiting Wolfson Fellowship 👀 many thanks to @I3hsH for loaning us some of the headsets to make it a reality
The card game wouldn't have been possible without the support of @ArmourerBrasier enabling us to demonstrate the many possibilities of these technologies!! (Print your own at home from name-pg.uk/atomic_scale_engi…)
