Together they created the concept and produced this short animated film youtube.com/watch?v=zCnxsG1D…

Could it communicate what RFA did [...]more intensely than a general, overview-type film?

But something didn't feel quite right about that... it lacked that chocolatey factor. So they hit upon telling a specific, individual story.
1
RFA wanted a video that showcased their work; early discussions were around a film based on interviews and filmed footage of the staff and the centre, etc.

@paburt partnered with Watering Can media and amazing animation director @DanielaSherer to address a brief for Resources for Autism (RFA).

There's a shortness and sweetness to brief films — the way they capture experience and atmosphere gives them a remarkable... chocolatey quality... to use the technical term.
1
The gap between these two experiences (delectable and 'meh'), isn't just confined to chocolate; it can be felt anywhere taste is concerned - especially filmmaking.
1
Now compare that to eating a whole bar of middling, production-line stuff — the kind you don’t give a second thought to after you’re finished.

Imagine savouring a solitary piece of remarkable chocolate…

5/ Your viewers want to escape their ordinary world, but also relate to something familiar - only story and character do that consistently well. And only film can deliver that in a leveraged way.

4/ Viewers prefer to see your characters, rather than you. And that’s no slight. Far from a slight, it is actually an opportunity: We remember well-drawn characters long we've used the associated product or service.

3/ So that’s the first reason our thesis (“whoever tells the best story wins”) holds true. It’s in that tension of being lost in a story and found near an interesting character that hearts are won. Which brings us to the second reason why the best story wins…
1
2/ With a short film we escape reality for a moment, and at the same time hitch ourselves to the tether of a relatable character in the story. In this way, we lose and find ourselves in the same breath.

6/ For good reason, grandparents don’t whip out user manuals and academic journals when it’s time to put the grandkids to bed. It would surely get the job done and send the poor kid to sleep, but it would also rob both grandparent and child of the magic of story.
