Should the County Council raise property taxes or reduce spending to address the budget deficit? 💵 Learn more about my budget plan, which would freeze property taxes at their current levels and reduce spending to balance the biennial budget.

Nice to see the RAP Program highlighted in the @LynnwoodTimes! 🛠️ “The program was the brainchild of Snohomish County Councilman Nate Nehring who, back in 2018, led a series of discussions with local employers, educators, and labor leaders on how to address the lack of workforce in the building and construction trades.” It’s so exciting to hear about the successes students are having and the tremendous growth of the program. A big thank you to all of the labor partners, school districts, and community leaders who helped make this a reality! And thank you to State Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti for his visit and support of the RAP Program.
Washington State Treasurer Mike Pellicciotti visited Marysville Pilchuck High School’s Regional Apprenticeship Pathways (RAP) program to see how students are getting free hands-on training in the trades—plus dual credits and a path into union apprenticeships. lynnwoodtimes.com/2026/10/23…

VOTE YES ON SNOHOMISH COUNTY CHARTER AMENDMENTS Snohomish County neighbors, Election Day is approaching, and there are some critical local charter amendment proposals that I hope you'll join me in voting "YES" to approve: Prop 1 would establish a foundation government services policy. In other words, it would require that the county fund core services before discretionary services. Prop 2 would require the county to maintain a budget stabilization fund for emergency situations or natural disasters. Prop 3 would make all county offices nonpartisan so that we can focus on candidates' qualifications just like many counties and all cities currently do. Prop 4 would increase public access to county financial transparency without charging fees. Prop 5 would require a 4/5ths supermajority vote of the Council in order to increase your taxes. I encourage you to join me in voting "YES" to approve all 5 of these Snohomish County charter amendments!

This afternoon we cut the ribbon on the SR 530 broadband expansion project, which is bringing high-speed internet to nearly 5,000 homes and businesses in the Arlington/Darrington area. We were successful in securing $17 million in grant funding as well as $9 million from @ZiplyFiber to make this project happen. This is a big day for investment in rural communities and I am so grateful for everyone who played a role in getting this across the finish line. ⚡️

One of the outside committees I have the privilege of chairing is the Conservation Futures Board. This Board is responsible for recommending grant awards for land conservation projects that preserve farm land, forest land, habitat, and open space. At our meeting earlier this week, the Board voted to recommend $7.4 million in grant funding to protect over 170 acres from development. Here are the projects included: Lake Stickney Park Acquisition (9.78 acres) Wallace River Trail (1.31 acres) Lower Stevens Creek Lanad Acquisition (0.55 acres) 74th & Wetmore Ave Utilities Property (1.0 acres) Hendrickson Property Acquisition (9.94 acres) Tunnel Creek Property Acquisition (5.93 acres) Kellogg Marsh Cooperative Acquisition Phase II (59.0 acres) Pilchuck River Cooperative Acquisition Phase II (25.11 acres) North County Forestry Reserve (59.6 acres)

So, how should we approach the issues of homelessness and addiction? We need a two-pronged approach which includes both compassion and accountability. I believe we should shift our focus to prioritize recovery and sobriety rather than rely on status quo efforts which have spent billions of dollars and made little to no progress. It's time for a change in our approach to these critical issues - lives are at stake.

After proposing a sales tax increase and a car tab fee increase (both passed on 3-2 votes) the County Executive is now proposing multiple property tax increases to raise millions of additional tax dollars in an attempt to address the county's budget shortfall. Taxes should not be the first resort every time government faces a deficit. Families and businesses throughout Snohomish County face similar financial challenges, but are forced to make difficult decisions on how to reduce spending in order to balance their budgets. Your county government should operate with the same mindset. I will continue to advocate for Snohomish County taxpayers by prioritizing spending reductions before tax increases are considered in the county's budget process.

Yesterday, the County Council passed a resolution recognizing September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Snohomish County. A huge thank you to Josh Estes and Reese Estes for joining us. Very moving words from Reese on the importance of childhood cancer awareness.

👀 COMMENTARY [@NateNehring]: Helping people escape addiction is not the same as handing out the tools to keep using. Snohomish County tax dollars should fund treatment, recovery, and sobriety—not syringes, pipes, foil, and spoons. lynnwoodtimes.com/2026/09/23…
